No ideas that aren’t very complicated here! Looking for some inspiration before I have to spend hours and hours crafting tomorrow!

Viking from Horrible Histories. I stuck some fake fur fabric round the bottom of some leggings (literally stuck with a glue gun or possibly some scouts badge glue, don't remember which), with a brown vest of mine over a long sleeve top as a tunic. Then he had a cape and a cardboard sword.

Reused it for Halloween as well. Top work.

DD - Thor as school have specified superheroes .

DS - adamant he wants to go as the footballer Martin Odegaard and keeps making the point that he appears in the Arsenal annual so therefore counts as a book character Confused. Trying to persuade him to go as someone else.

8yo DD wanted to be Crookshanks, but we couldn't find the right colour ears and tail (v important, obviously). Then she was going to be Prof McGonagall, but that was too difficult/expensive.

Now she's going as the Cheshire Cat. We found a cheap costume that fits her perfectly and she's happy enough. A couple of years ago she was Alice, and took her own CC in to hold.

DS(3) is a carrot, from Colin & Lee, Carrot & Pea. We already had the homemade costume from DD and it fits, so that's fine.

Into my tenth year of WBD. Youngest (7) chose her neatest best fitting costume. Elsa. Ok so it wasn't a book at first but she will carry the now available book.

Please, parents. Don't put pressure on yourself or your kids! Life is too short and ask them in 5 years what they did for WBD and they will have a vague merged memory. S

Asterix. His red joggers, a black T-shirt of mine, his dad’s belt. He made a cardboard sword. I folded and sellotaped silver card to make a helmet.

Gobbolino the Witch's Cat (she has a black cat onesie already).

I wish it was a PJs/onesie day TBH, so they could just bring in their favourite book to share with each other without the added stress/cost of getting an outfit to match. Most families, like us, choose an outfit from what they already have then find a book to fit with it. DD1 does love Gobbolino, but it isn't her favourite. Given she has spent much of the past few weeks walking around the house referring to everything as "my precshhhhhhiousssssss...", I suspect The Hobbit would be her current choice. She would be very jealous to hear that the PP's DC is going as Gandalf (Glamdring or no Glamdring!).

The character from diary of a wimpy kid! White t-shirt, black shorts, white trainers and a black school bag. We already have everything in the house

Hilda from the comic series. Also on netflix Wink not sure how she will cope with the blue wig.

We already had HP stuff annoyingly. Maybe next year.

LoudSnoringDog · 02/03/2022 07:12

Every year we just alternate between
Matilda ( blue check dress)
Violet Beauregard ( tracksuit)
Veruca salt ( party frock )

LoudSnoringDog · 02/03/2022 07:14

Sorry! I think this year she's considering a nightdress for Sophie (BFG)

35andThriving · 02/03/2022 21:00

Harry Potter.

RoxiTheRexy · 02/03/2022 21:30
