Random twinges of cystitis

Does anyone else get this?
Sometimes, around the time I go to bed, I go for one last wee and get that horrible feeling like you have cystitis - uncomfortable wee and feeling like you haven't properly finished (anyone who's had cystitis will know what I'm trying to describe).
However, I then go to bed and wake up fine and it doesn't happen again for literally weeks.
Any ideas?

I do yes. I had cystitis a couple of times as a student and then randomly got it really bad this Xmas just gone, so 20 years later!! On New Year’s Day I had to go to an emergency clinic in a city 15 miles away.

Anyway…. Since the I get “that UTI feeling” occasionally but nothing comes of it. I just think it’s when I haven’t drunk enough water. I find a big glass of lemon barley knocks it in the head…that was a tip from my DHs nanna (RIP) - sounds basic as anything but works!!!

Yep, but usually first thing in the morning. I'm prone to cystitis so it always gives me the horrors, thankfully a lot of the time a couple of glasses of water sorts it out.

Myownpapillon · 28/02/2022 21:26

Yep, I get this a few times a year - usually when I'm dehydrated . A glass of water before bed usually sees me right for the morning.

WoodpeckerInTheTree · 28/02/2022 21:31

That's a relief - thank you!!
Yes, I usually drink a glass of milk or water when I've had the twinges.
It fills me with horror and dread, too - I used to suffer terribly with repeated attacks and only antibiotics ever helped. I had a cystoscopy in the end and they told me I had scarring, apparently, which makes the whole area more sensitive. I have horrible memories of hours sitting on the loo just eking out drops of blood in utter misery.
Then after having my first DC something changed and I've been (touch wood) much less prone to it. Weird!

Oh bless you @WoodpeckerInTheTree I've definitely been there! Sometimes I have to get up in the night and go doze propped up in the corner of the sofa as lying down seems to make it worse (and I'm frightened of dream-peeing when in bed if I fall into a deep sleep, as I've done once or twice during particularly bad infections Sad).

I always keep some cystitis relief sachets in (I buy them in the supermarket) and take the full 2 day course as soon as there’s the slightest sign.

It’s worked so far - except for the time it started on holiday and I couldn’t get the sachets. Now I never go away without them.

Yeah I do too. Had repeated infections as a teen and any intimacy as an adult triggers it. In the end the hospital actually cut into the urethra so that it would stretch apart and heal wider (without anaesthetic I might add). It helped a bit but basically when my friend is here, I have to take antibiotics to stop it getting a grip. If there's an infection it hits like a ton of bricks, from 0 - 100 painwise within 90 minutes.

And yeah, now and then there's a stab of typical cystitis pain which brings instant worry because I don't know if it's the start of an attack or not.

WoodpeckerInTheTree · 02/03/2022 13:54

ljsbear I'm so sorry...what you've been through is horrendous.

I get it sometimes, usually then realise I haven't drink enough water. But also having an extra wash helps too (wish I had a bidet Grin).

ThreeRingCircus · 02/03/2022 15:36

I had this only the other week! I was dreading a proper bout of cystitis but then it went away....had it again a few days later and realised both times was when I'd had no water....eg coffee in the morning and a fizzy drink at lunchtime so I think it was my bladder getting irritated. I now try to have hot water and lemon or at least a glass of water first thing in the morning and that seems to have helped.

TheYellowOne · 02/03/2022 15:40

How old are you all? This wasn't a thing fir me until I got in to my 40s - linked to increased UTIs being a symptom of perimenopause. I really have to keep on top of it, drinking loads of water, but I still get twinges.

workwoes123 · 02/03/2022 17:26

What age are you OP? I’m49 and have been getting this. I think it’s linked to peri menopausal dryness unfortunately. I’m be been prone to cystitis in the past, but now I’m getting twinges quite often for no reason ce (still drinking as much as I used to),

I know! It seems that most other countries don't sell the sachets. I mean, why not? Italy certainly don't - and as the man I had gone to visit in Italy happened to be a pharmacist there was no doubt that about it. Albania do though. Like you, I always take them with me when I go away now, plus a course of either Trimethroprim or the other one I've forgotten the name of beginning with an 'n' that makes your wee flourescent, which I buy from an online pharmacist just in case.
