6pm swimming lessons - when do you feed them?

6yo is starting a 6pm swimming lesson. We normally eat 6-6:30. He goes to after school club so I’ll have to pick him up and take him straight there, and we won’t get home until 7pmish.

What should I do about him getting some dinner? I guess I could give him a sandwich to eat in the car on the way there, but it was drilled into to me as a kid never to swim on a full stomach. But if we wait until after I expect he’ll be absolutely starving. And do I just accept it’s a double sandwich day (he has packed lunches)?

Suggestions?

I would be doing something like a banana on the way there and then a packed meal on the way back

I'd do a lunch box for him to eat in the car or a quick ready meal to microwave when you get back
It's not going to hurt once a week

Banana or 1/2 sandwich in car beforehand, Fresh pasta with ready done sauce/ pesto or something on toast ie eggs or beans when home

My 5 year old has similar times. He is a snack before and then dinner when we get home(about 7). I do things that are quick and easy to make.

We have similar times, mine has a croissant or brioche type bun before hand and then after we do a really quick tea as she’s usually really hungry by the time she gets home.

We always do a banana in the car on the way there and a thermos of pasta with veg, chicken or tuna and sauce on the way home (in the car too)

Does he not get fed at after school club ? Otherwise yes decent snack but not too heavy (cheese and crackers/ peanut butter and apple/ hummous and carrot sticks) then either a drive through Mcds or soup/beans on toast when you get home.

DD (8) has her swimming lesson at 6. I work and pick her up from after school club so we just eat after. It's usually about 7.15 but we always eat quite late anyway as the DCs often have evening activities.

We always have pasta and a jar of sauce after swimming because it's quick!

My son used to have a 5:3 swimming lesson and I always gave him, at half 4, a peanut butter rice crack, banana and rasens and then after he finished his lessons he would have some supper.
It worked and he was never complaining of being overly hungry or tummy ache!

I gave mine some home made veggie ( grated carrots, grated courgette, sliced onions and potatoes pieces) pakoras after school with some pineapple pieces and cucumbers. They had 1 activity after school then 1 hour in between and we spent that time playing in the park. We then went to the 6pm activity. We got home for 7.10 and they ate plain boiled rice with chicken cooked in garlic, tomato and green gourd. They slept by 8.15. Long day Mondays and Thursdays for them. Early school day on Wednesdays as they have a reading club early in the morning. They as there are two of them. There are 3 but one is too small and tags along Grin
