What sort of bread product should I buy?

Dh and I don't eat much bread, certainly not on a daily basis, but we like to have something in for lunches when working from home, to go with soup or eggs etc
In the past, we've kept a loaf of sliced seeded bread in the freezer, but it really doesn't seem as nice when it's toasted after being frozen. We like bagels and they have a longer sell by date than a loaf, but not long enough and we always end up binning some. Even buying the smallest loaf of bread we can find, we end up throwing some out as it's gone over. Is there a bread product that fits the bill? Something we can keep in the larder for up to a week ?

Sourdough , but really good one, not the mass produced stuff you get from local supermarkets.

I order two sliced loafs from a bakery once a week and put them in the freezer straight away ,they usually take a couple of minutes to toast and always taste fresh.

I'm a huge fan of the Low GI Cob from Lidl. It stays squishy for days and it's low carb too. It freezes well, for toast etc.

10/10 would recommend. It's in the bakery section.

Why dont you just leave out some of a loaf and freeze the rest, letting it thaw when you need it, rather than toast from frozen?

Part baked baguettes, they last ages and you can put one baguette in the oven to share when you want it.

Vogel’s bread toasts from frozen beautifully. I agree that not all bread freezes well.

Part baked rolls - you can keep them in the cupboard for ages.

I was coming on to say this, and you beat me to it. Splendid loaf. The Lidl bakery produce is excellent.

I usually keep pita bread in the freezer. It’s a smaller pack then the whole loaf and some pitas can be kept more then one month. I like white pittas from Waitrose and wholemeal from M&S. M&S also does nice mini pittas, very handy if you need a really small portion of bread. It’s tasted very good even when toasted from frozen.

Lidls wholemeal seeded bread is fine if frozen then thawed or toasted from frozen, it's 89p one

Flazeda · 28/02/2022 14:25

I keep tortilla wraps in for this reason. Not too heavy bread wise, but great with multiple fillings

Thanks, some good suggestions here. Sadly I don't have Lidl within striking distance which is a shame because it seems they nail certain products

I'd agree with the proper bread from a bakery, part baked rolls and the wraps.
Also, check out oven bottom muffins. Excellent with soup or stuffed with bacon and/or egg

Part bake rolls. Aldi do a lovely bag of ten seeded ones. They keep for ages.

PeeAche · 28/02/2022 16:24

To be completely honest, OP, I think you should consider moving house. I couldn't be more than a 10 minute drive from Lidl's Low GI Cob.

Phew. I feel light headed even thinking about it.

Start house hunting. Immediately.

Homemade sourdough can last a couple of weeks, even longer in the fridge.

AdaColeman · 28/02/2022 16:56

Part baked/bake at home rolls and baguettes are your answer. I cook mine in the Air Fryer for quickness and convenience.

EwwSprouts · 28/02/2022 17:40

Jason's sour dough ciabattini which is sold in M&S but is a branded product. There's plain white or a multi-seeded. Toasts well after frozen too.
