Year 8 are still going to dress up 🙄 Any ideas for an age appropriate/cool-ish dress up fie boys?

I'd be semi tempted to suggest Banquo's ghost! Pale makeup, Halloween stash, joke shop dagger. But that may not be on the cool enough scale.

Hard one for 12-13. Tintin? A detective? Anything alluding to books from Emil and the Detectives to more recent ones along the same lines.

Surely at that age a Hogwarts scarf or HP t-shirt is enough? I can’t remember any year 8s going full dress up at DSs school!

FaceLikeASlappedAss · 28/02/2022 13:57

Surely not many would participate?
I know my ds refused from year 4 onwards. It wasn't 'cool'

But as for ideas? What about a football kit and be a football player. That way if no one participates its more like non uniform?

Ds is 10 and in similar boat. We went for Percy Jackson and I got him an orange hoody with half blood camp on the front - he’s going to wear it with jeans and trainers. Maybe a compromise for your son too?

Are you sure they are all taking part? I know our secondary does it but only a tiny minority dress up. Most still wear uniform

My ds would thoroughly recommend "The invisible man" ie stay at home, if thryinflicted that torture on his secondary school.

Let him have a good lie in then go to McDonald's instead.

This WBD is getting out of hand. It never used to be this bad. It's a complete waste of money and resources.

Just say no.

Yes unfortunately as the school goes up to year 8. A friend has suggested a muggle from HP which I hadn't thought of. Perfect as absolutely no dressing up required, just normal clothes!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions though!

DD is 11 and going as Gandalf.

BlackRedGold · 28/02/2022 17:01

What book is he reading at the moment, or has finished recently?

Just choose a character from that (really, most characters in books set in fairly modern times just wear normal clothes) take book in to school, say you are that character. Problem solved.

The main bit is choosing a book, and maybe thinking a bit about what that character might be like, what props they might have. It doesn't need to involve elaborate costumes.

Dd is just going in normal clothes as a girl from the book she happens to be reading at the moment, with a notebook as a prop, as this character is always writing down clues.

Blimey yr8? Sad DS is yr4 and not interested... got him a Dogman t-shirt from ebay, but that was only because he'd wear it anyway. Yr8 is crazy?

Uptheduffagai · 28/02/2022 18:28

I’m surprised year 8 is seen as old for WBD. We were in year 11 at school and going all out with costumes and dress up!
