Iv been waiting for around 6 months and had a phone call yesterday to say there is space for the 13th March.

I’m having my top right wisdom tooth out (would love my left out too but apparently it’s not needed even though I still have a gum flap!) and the tooth next to it which apparently has a big hole in that I didn’t know about. I’m having it under general.

I’m so scared lol I had my bottom two under ga out around 10 years ago and ended up with dry socket, I remember the pain!

I can’t remember if there is anything I need to get to help heal etc?

Help please :(

I think I was just told to swill warm salted water. I had all 4 wisdom teeth out and my face was covered in fingermark bruises but had no dry socket so hopefully you'll be OK.

I had all 4 of mine out under general and it was fine, totally back to normal the next day eating soft foods for another 2-3 days…great for the waist line!

I had mine out ten days ago under local and it has been fine!
Avoid alcohol, foods like rice and hard crunchy stuff for a good few days. Avoid hot drinks too Rinse with salt water after eating. Don't run your tongue over it. Try to take it easy for a day or so.

Hope it goes well for you!

Get some Arnica if that's your thing for the bruising, avoid fizzy drinks or drinking through a straw as well as that can dislodge things and lead to dry socket. Jelly, apple sauce and yogurt were lovely but I found myself craving savoury foods so perhaps get some soups in as well. Mashed potato with cheese and milk was epic as well...

I didn't get dry socket but did get an infection, antibiotics soon cleared that up and then I needed probiotics to deal with the anti-b's! Salt water rinses for how ever often they tell you. Good luck! Flowers

I had dry socket years ago and the pain was horrendous. I just had an extraction last month and begged the surgeon for advice on how to avoid dry socket. She was clear NOT to rinse with salt water more than once a day, as this can dislodge the blood and clotting; avoid very hot and very cold food (inhibits clotting); avoid anything chewy or crunchy for a few days. And critically, REST - she reminded me that this is surgery and you need to rest in order to heal.

This time, no dry socket. Likely just luck, but the above can't have done any harm.

Good luck.

I’ve had a wisdom tooth out as well and can also recommend making sure not to swill anything around for at least a few days to avoid dry socket!

Do you smoke? If so, stop - it's a big risk factor.
