Any Irish people living in the UK, who have inherited from Ireland, can you please give me the heads up re inheritance tax

My mum died recently and has left myself and my siblings a third share of a house, there are disbursements to be paid, she deferred the property tax on principle, (even though she had the money) and the seven grandchildren have all inherited about £10,000

The house will after that be going three ways and I was just wondering if I will pay inheritance tax on it putting it into my UK account, I know the limit in Ireland is about £325,000 and that it is similar here, but don't know if I get hit transferring between two countries.

I would appreciate some advice, thank you very much.

My brother is executor and gets so anxious at the best of time that he wants this box ticked, I said I would ask ye wise women, will pursuing the actual answer to quell his anxiety.

You pay tax in Ireland before distribution, although as it's a parent, I don't know the proportion (my inheritance was from an aunt). Sorry for your loss.

Thank you very much, we are thankfully all at a stage in our lives where we are not standing waiting on it, so we can take our time, but my brother is in overdrive at the moment (not nice to see) and I said I would ask here.

I got up this morning and hit the laundry and admin, at 5.00pm he texted to say he had collected the death cert, every scrap of adrenaline I was running on evaporated, and I have sat watching shite TV all afternoon, my cousin texted at 4.00pm and said it is 5.00pm somewhere, so I had a hot whiskey... she would have approved, we generally talked about a new life in the sun and a place in the sun I only started watching it to keep her company in Ireland whilst I was in the UK during lockdown and then we started calling it, our vitamin D through the screen and she would tell me which ones had a respectable budget and which ones were being chancers.Grin

If she got her teeth into them, they didn't stand a chance.Grin

iht is paid by the estate ie your brother, before anything is distributed and it comes to you with nothing owing. Your only issue is going to be exchange rate so keep an eye on it and judge when to transfer to ££

Just double checked and it is different in Ireland as opposed to UK or Northern Ireland. CHeck it out here

We should be Ok, the house should raise about £120,0 each, it is a long way from leaving home with no job, no contacts and £100 in my back pocket, my friend told me, she left with £20.Shock
