Moviprep - TMI - how the hell do you know if it’s worked?

Have drunk 2 litres, minus about 75-100ml that I gagged back up . I haven’t had a normal BM since 4, just bright yellow liquid (completely clear), does that mean it’s worked? Or am I aiming for colour of water? I’m absolutely exhausted and desperately don’t want to have to go through this again if it hasn’t worked .

Oh, hope you soon feeling better, I've just been told today I'm going to need the same Sad it helped to read your experience though, well I think so! I like to know what could happen and am dreading the prep more than the procedure I think!!

It is a grim experience but I managed with just gas and air. I am a midwife though so very used to advising others how to use it effectively and aware of how loopy it can make you. At one point I stopped with the gas and air and just did square breathing as one line of a song on the radio kept repeating and I didn't like the feeling. But all in all the prep was definitely the worst bit for me.

Flowers the prep isn’t too too horrible, I ended up chugging it back as drinking it slowly was awful . I didn’t find it painful going to the loo, it’s just weird - I got about 10 seconds warning and had to run to toilet each time - and leaves you feeling very drained after . Sort of like being violently sick for a few hours but the opposite end . I didn’t get tummy cramping or cold sweats or anything though so didn’t feel like normal diarrhoea iyswim . Your bum does end up raw but sudocrem helped a bit with that . Wouldn’t want to go through it again but was bearable .

Actual colonoscopy - if you get sedation it’ll be fine, even if not any pain did pass - it was like wave of pain, then stopped, then another wave, then stopped . As soon as the scope was out the pain was gone / similar every time she stopped moving it; as soon as she stopped the pain went away . I was gulping it back and couldn’t string two thoughts together, it was a weird/unpleasant feeling . I remember them telling me to do slow breathing, kept hyperventilating and then holding my breath . They said if I need another could be given propofol or something . I have PTSD around medical things so think was inevitable I was going to panic .

The only funny thing was when she removed the scope I did the longest, loudest fart I’ve ever done - it was incredible, was so embarrassed but they said that’s exactly what they wanted to happen to get rid of gas .

The hot chocolate/toast after though was absolutely incredible - it was only after that I realised the toast was burnt/black, but to me it was the best food I’d ever tasted !

Wow things are done so differently in America. I just had a colonoscopy today and they knock you out. I went in, went to sleep, woke up in recovery and it was all over. Sounds pretty awful that you have to be awake while they do it. Oh, but the awful prep part is the same here.

That sounds amazing. I find them very painful too.

@fnknackered thanks for your advice, hope you're all on the mend soon and the news is good. Flowers

I really wish they did that here.

@Bagelsandbrie I agree - was a bit taken aback when I said I’ve a history of bad reactions to midazoalm and immediate reaction was, ‘oh, you can’t have anything beyond gas and air then’ - they gave me fentanyl after discussion but I’m not sure that helped at all .

They were very, very kind nurses though and I think it’s just a combination of me being utterly terrified of hospital procedures and past sexual assault .

Am OK today - mild colicky and crampy pain and a bit achy on upper left side but apart from that just absolutely, totally exhausted . Had to travel six hours yesterday (as I’m full time caring for Mum) and wish I hadn’t done that . Still haven’t been to the toilet either and no appetite at all . It’ll come though …
