Making bottles without prep machine

Our prep machine isn't working right, DS has 6oz bottles and for some reason it keeps making 4/5oz. I'm not willing to replace it anyway so I'm going to make them up without it I just need some advice. The past few bottles I have used boiled water to make up the bottle and cooled it down in a jug of cold. I haven't waited 30 mins though before pouring it out the kettle, is this ok? It just doesn't work. What is the most common method? I'm thinking about trying the method of pouring 2oz boiling water in, add formula, stir then add 4oz of cool boiled water (using an old bottle to make sure the measurements are right). I don't have a jug with a lid though. Is there a certain type of jug I need to use? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

You have to wait no longer than 30 mins because it has to do with the bacteria/degree of the water. Can't remember specifically.

Just pre make the bottles that's the simplest way. Boil the kettle, leave it to cool for 30mins exactly. Make up bottles and put them in jugs/pots of cold water so they cool down within one hour (you normally have to change the cold water 30mins in). Place them in the fridge. When you need a bottle just reheat it with boiling water in the jug, takes about 3mins to warm.

DD is 9 months and I still do this. Always found it to be so simple

OP, my dd is only 4yo so recently i did the fridge storage. Most important thing is the formula hits hot water to make it sterile. I wasn't faffing with making up every bottle and waiting. Theres loads of concers over how the perfect prep machines work, its a matter of weighing up vqrious risks as you do with everything

I just make them in advance and stick them in the fridge.
Take out when needed and warm in a jug of boiling water.
Use within 24 hours of making

It's not recommended now to take up bottles in advance for the day, the midwife at the hospital was very firm on it!

Midwives don't know everything and their advice, although helpful can also be outdated.

Seriously, done it with all 3 of mine, never any ill effects, no tummys bugs etc.

Those of you making in advance, how are you making them though? Do you wait exactly 30 minutes for the boiled water and then make up?

@7catsisnotenough

Can you not make up the bottles for the day using cooled, boiled water store them in the fridge and reheat them by standing them in a bowl of hot water? That's how we used to do it and my children have all survived?
That's what we did too.

Yes I literally set the time for 30 minutes otherwise I'll forget. It's not that serious having to wait 30mins surely lol? Just set an alarm and get to making the bottles. I've been doing it like this since DD was a newborn

Literally this

Used to wait 15mins or so depending on what else i was doing, like pp said, set an alarm if you're that worried about exactly 30mins. You need water hot but not too hot otherwise its hard to mix in the bottle.

I did the same. Just copy what the perfect prep does. 1/3 hot water with formula and shake. Then top up with cooled boiled water. I just used a sealed container. Sometimes even just the spare closed baby bottle filled to the top left in the fridge to cool until needed. Perfect temp every time.
