Would this bother you?

Until recently I was the only bread-butterer in the family. I generally rotate the butter dish so the butter gets used up evenly.

My adolescent dc have recently discovered butter, and this is what I find.

I don't care for it, as it makes the butter harder to gather onto the knife and therefore harder to spread. But I can't really be bothered to make a fuss about it.

But - this is where MN comes in -

Should I train my dc to take up the butter properly, purely to reduce the chance of their future spouse burying them under the patio?

Would this bother you?

MaYbe a gentle reeducation but With teenage children, there are other hills I would die on.
Also, I think of reasons to be buried under the patio this isn't the most significant.

SheWoreYellow · 27/02/2022 09:03

I could live with that. So I wouldn’t say anything.

TulipCat · 27/02/2022 09:06

Oh my, that is an abomination! 😂 I think I would have to take action.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/02/2022 09:09

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/02/2022 09:10

I think the child needs to be grounded.

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2022 09:13

I would buy two packs , and keep one just for my own use. I have done that before with cheese in this house.

Your butter dish is quite deep, is that the problem though?

DropYourSword · 27/02/2022 09:18

It wouldn't particularly bother me, because I'm just impressed there are no crumbs in there narrows eyes at my DH

Buuuut, it might be worth getting a much shallower butter dish so it's easier to get butter out without gouging.

RichardsGear · 27/02/2022 09:18

You can try but they probably won't take a blind bit of notice and that will piss you off even more.

OldTinHat · 27/02/2022 09:21

Have you put the butter in the lid? It looks too deep. Might make a difference before anyone starts planning to lay a patio 🤔

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2022 09:22

I am glad it's not just me who has the depth of butter dish thought. Grin

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 27/02/2022 09:29

Are they too old to rehome do you think?

Wink
boniobiscuit · 27/02/2022 09:31

Like others I'm pretty sure that's the lid.

Butter dish in our house gets a third of a pack put in it and, other than in hot weather, is kept out on the side and not in the fridge so the butter is the perfect temperature for spreading.

Yes, I have got something right! They rarely get it the butter crumby, jammy, Marmitey or peanut buttery. Grin

They also don't gouge. They stroke the butter out in the approved manner.

It looks like gouging has taken place in the picture.

Dilbertian · 27/02/2022 09:34

GordenBennett · 27/02/2022 09:35

That makes me uncomfortable

Dilbertian · 27/02/2022 09:35

Current status. No gouging. Just one-directional stroking.

no wouldnt bother me

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2022 09:41

I think in the second picture it's better because the butter is still higher than the sides of the dish making it easier to stroke the top with the knife horizontal. Once it goes below the sides then it's a problem.
