Positive COVID result not on GP notes and I need evidence to travel

I had COVID over New Year, have recently been unwell, went to GP and they have not been informed of positive result. Illness is covid related and I had to show them the text I had received for a positive result.
I need a letter from GP to evidence I have had covid in last 90days for travel purposes. They can’t issue one without being formally notified so told me to ring 119 who sent me a link that is fairly useless but I sent a query and have not had a response. I am getting passed between GP and NHS119. No one appears to have responsibility and it’s being left to me to sort out. How on earth can I resolve this?

If you download the NHS App then your proof of recovery certificate should be on there automatically. If you go into the NHS Covid Pass section, Travel and then on the big green pass section then it will be in there - just scroll through past any proof of vaccination passes. You can also download it as a PDF.

Have you spoken to the embassy of the country you want to visit to see if they offer an alternative form of proof?

Phormiumjester · 27/02/2022 08:40

If you logged the test on line, or had a PCR it's on your NHS covid app. Download it. It's quite easy to do.

Thanks. I also need evidence in my GP notes too and neither surgery or NHS online are taking responsibility for this.

I don't suppose you know how long it takes to appear? My day 10 was Tuesday this week but I don't have the certificate of recovery yet on my NHS app.
Abraxan · 27/02/2022 09:45

Did you do a pcr test? Or just an lft?

The nhs app only accepts pcr results for the recovery QR code thing.

Mine appeared 10 days after my pcr test.
It did not take the LFT result into account at all.

Flyingbymypants · 27/02/2022 09:57

Has your positive test result/recovery certificate made it into your NHS app? If so I really don't see why your GP needs to get involved. Could you not just download them and show them to your GP if you really do need a private letter for travel purposes.
If they haven't appeared on the app - I'd chase through 119.

goldfluffyclouds · 27/02/2022 09:59

What date was your positive PCR and was it an NHS one?
I had trouble with getting proof of recovery because mine was a private lab test following travel and it turns out those are not recognised by NHS for purposes of the Covid pass.
You could be going round the same loop I was in and it never got resolved.
In the end the only way I could fix it was to have Covid for a second time and log it with an NHS PCR test...

LizDoingTheCanCan · 27/02/2022 10:02

Who is saying you need evidence in your GP notes, which country are you travelling to?

TroysMammy · 27/02/2022 10:07

I work in a GP surgery and it was only a couple of weeks ago that we'd heard of a Recovery Certificate and that is only because a patient had rung 119 and they fobbed her off by telling her to ring her GP for one. Nothing on her record because she had only done a LFT which was positive, not recorded the result, not done a PCR either. Nothing we could do either.

No point ringing your surgery and putting extra unnecessary work on them.

BlackishTulips · 27/02/2022 10:10

Which countries accept this for travel?

DamnUserName21 · 27/02/2022 10:40

GPs don't usually issue a private recover letter to coincide with your NHS covid pass.
They definitely won't do it if there is no record of a positive PCR in your GP notes. This means they haven't received notification from PHE/NHS of your infection.

There are lots of private vendors who will issue you a covid recovery letter for travel if you show them proof of positive PCR such as text or email. These range in price.

Fairunibutterfly · 27/02/2022 10:55

I did an LFT for my positive and got a code online to log it onto my Covid test and trace app.

Do I need a PCR to officially log I’ve had Covid?

Yes, you do.
electrocautery · 27/02/2022 11:17

Seems odd why can't you just either do an airport PCR/travel test or use your vaccine certificate for travel?
Are you worried that your pcr would still show up as positive?
Where are you travelling to? And when are you going?
It's likely that some of the requirements will be dropped as we get further into 2023

A pcr is the only way to access the recovery pass. LFTs done at home would be open to abuse as you can just enter any result.
Befrazzled · 27/02/2022 18:48

I’m going to USA and will be within the 90 day period So I need a letter on headed from GP stating this as a LFT could produce a false positive. PCR test was carried out at local walk in centre on beginning january

OP posts:
Apandemicyousay · 27/02/2022 18:55

Very few LFD are still positive at 90 day mark, hence the test to release at day 6/7 recently. If you are worried about this pay for a PCR too when you travel. Leave your GP out of calls regarding travel arrangements. This is not their remit. As per PP a certificate of recovery will be on your NHS App

Abraxan · 27/02/2022 19:17

Have you tried taking an LFT since?
I tested negative quite quickly on LFT. Had no issues testing negative 2 weeks later for a travel LFT.

LFT are less likely to be positive than PCR. Tbh even PCRs tend to test negative fairly quickly - it's just that for some people they can show, positive linger but by no means most.

Abraxan · 27/02/2022 19:18

It's unlikely your gp will do the letter in my experience. There are firms offering these though - paid for schemes inc some of the testing providers.

Unlikely a LFT will test positive now, let alone just before you travel (unless you catch Covid again just before travelling).

All you need for the US is your vaccination proof and a supervised negative LFT done 1 day before you travel. Given that you can do your own LFT right now and see if you're negative, I'm not sure what the big deal is and why you're chasing for a GP letter. Just take the test.

welshweasel · 27/02/2022 19:26

Don’t bother, just do a LFT. We’ve just come back from New York and all had covid fairly recently. Way too much trouble sorting a letter so just paid to do the test (£24) via Qured. Much easier.
