If this morning is my evening...

If I've just done two long night shifts and I've got two more to do, is it wrong to unwind before bed with a glass of wine? Even if it's 7am?

No you crack on it sounds lovely, I hope you have a good sleep as well Flowers.

It is 5pm somewhere I guess. There is no law around times for drinking.

However will it not start to muck up your internal schedule more if you introduce morning drinking?

So I wouldn't, personally.

Unwinding with a glass of wine is not the healthiest way to unwind anyway (sorry).

GeneLovesJezebel · 27/02/2022 07:04

Lots of night workers do it, but I’d be concerned by a need to do it.

AmbushedByCake · 27/02/2022 07:05

Speaking as someone who used to do a lot of nights, you'll probably wake up dehydrated, groggy and with a banging headache if you drink wine now.

Lol I was prepared for this kind of response but not for 'morning drinking'!

Yes, I know a glass of wine is not a good healthy way to unwind... but it is something I will do. So when I'm on a run of night shifts, after a particularly long couple of shifts in an emergency services call centre, it feels like it might be forgivable. I promise it doesn't make me drink wine for breakfast.

Not a need. If it was a need I would be worried too!

Surely that's only if I get drunk on a bottle. A single glass though?

It is funny though, it sounds hideous doesn't it? Cracking open a bottle of wine at 7am is for addicts only. But genuinely this is my evening. I'm in my pyjamas and about to go to bed for 8 hours. I'm unwinding after a long 'day' and fancy a glass of wine. If nobody knew the time, it wouldn't be such a heinous crime...

One would have been enough to mess up my sleep anyway, but I still did it the odd time.

RedRobyn2021 · 27/02/2022 07:13

You don't need to ask permission OP crack on and enjoy your glass of wine

Hope you sleep well

snowdropsandcrocuses · 27/02/2022 07:20

Thanks to those wishing me good sleeps. I actually sleep really well after night shifts. For me the toughest part is getting back into 'normal' routines. I think I'm a night owl genetically. My perfect work shift would be 11-7. Nice lie in, late evening meal, bed in the wee hours.

I'll leave you all with this tale. My absolutely favourite emergency call of late was a lovely, if not a little mixed up lady, called me at 7am on 999 to ask me what day it is. And then what time it is. She was very insistent and somewhat panicking. Once she knew she thanked me and hung up. Best call ever...! 😂
