Anyone know how to prevent nightmares?

Posting here for traffic.
It's me, I have relentless nightmares, really horrible, no theme, extremely vivid, sometimes related to things I've seen or read sometimes random.
I'm very anxious in life so I just don't get any respite.

I don't know how to prevent them but there are things you can do to minimise the risk of disturbed dreams.

  • minimise or eliminate over exposure to TV and Internet.
  • if you watch violent or disturbng films, stop that too
  • focus on positive experiences that lift your mood eg being outdoors, yoga, meditation, daily exercise
  • diet and lifestyle changes eg good sleep hygiene, not eating a heavy meal too close to bed time.

If you're doing the reverse of the above it will make you more susceptible to bad dreams

I used to have ongoing anxiety in my 20s and 30s and consequently had frequent bad dreams at night. Dreams are your body's way of processing your thoughts/experiences/feelings during the day and play an important role. The key for me was to reduce my anxiety levels during the day. The most effective solution for me was a trip to the GP and being given sertraline and then taking walks and burning off some of my nervous energy. I also bought a weighted blanket which is apparently proven to calm the nervous system down. It has worked really well for me but it does take some getting used to. Finally, lying down for 20 minutes during the day and listening to say relaxing music also really helps.

Don't sleep on your back.

I have always dreamt a lot, many of them nightmares. Sometimes I have them more than others, I have never worked why.
I definitely avoid scary stuff in the way of films and tv, as they can provide material.
I tried a sort of antidepressant as a painkiller briefly, it meant I didn't dream at all. I hated that too, it felt like I hadn't slept.

I often have strange dreams about things if I haven’t given myself the time to process them in my waking life. If something upsets me or causes strong emotions, I try not to ignore it, talk it out with someone if possible, and try not to suppress it. I found that using some CBT techniques has helped me have less disturbed sleep at night. Also, fresh air and exercise during the day helps me sleep a lot deeper.

I often have nightmares if I'm too hot. What's your bedroom temperature like ?
Sympathies , it's horrible.
