Panicking about my heart

Sapphireskies · 27/02/2022 00:31

Since I got my Apple Watch my ecg readings have been normal. They have been sinus rhythm. Even on the 25th of Feb it was normal sinus rhythm. I've done some ecg at 12:06 am. It's come up inconclusive, so I did another a minute later and it said sinus rhythm. I then waited four minutes and it said inconclusive. It said inconclusive again 2 minutes after. I'm panicking because it isn't under poor recording, so I must have something wrong with my heart. I know Apple Watch ecg (I have latest Apple Watch, series 7) is known for being incredibly accurate.

Just done another now at 12:34, albeit in a different position instead of propped up in bed, sat on the side of it. It's now saying sinus rhythm which is normal. Should I see a doctor Monday.

Far more likely to be a problem with your watch than with your heart. Watches make pretty crap ECG machines.

It’s a watch, not a piece of medical equipment

Ditch the watch

ChocDonuts · 27/02/2022 00:39

You should never trust a watch to do a ECG

scornrufibarbis · 27/02/2022 00:40

I’m sure I saw a whole post on a Instagram or TikTok explaining just how inaccurate apple watches are (or any kind of activity / heart rate tracker)

alexdgr8 · 27/02/2022 00:42

if you are worried, ring 111.

Sapphireskies · 27/02/2022 00:48

I'm getting sinus rhythm when I'm being very still with my eyes open and finger completely on the crown. I will make a gp appointment on Monday for peace of mind.

There's a reason ECGs have so many leads and aren't just done on the wrist

OutsideVoice · 27/02/2022 00:50

Is there a reason why you are checking it so often?
Are you feeling ill?
If you are otherwise fit and well I’d ignore it.

Surely that proves that the watch is inaccurate?

NORMAL sinus rhythm.

Not Torsardes, calm your pants.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/02/2022 00:55

It's a shitty watch that you are allowing it's totally unscientific readings to override your common sense.

Sapphireskies · 27/02/2022 01:02

It turned out I was wearing it on the wrong wrist. Since then I've done 3 and they've all been fine. I'm a lot less worried now.

I know right. When my DS has them done the leads are all over his chest, back and legs. As if a bloody watch is going to be accurate.

Calm down OP, you getting anxious is probably making a huge difference in the very inaccurate readings.

Like PP said,it's a watch and not a piece of medical equipment.I wouldn't trust an ECG reading from a watch.
What does inconclusive even mean? I'm guessing the quality of ECG was so poor that it couldn't tell if it was sinus rhythm,AF,VT,SVT or complete heart block.

Put it in the rubbish. You'll be a lot better off.
SmudgeRolls · 27/02/2022 01:13

‘Wrong wrist’ or not

Never trust a watch to do the job of medical equipment and a medically trained person

Sapphireskies · 27/02/2022 01:21

Yes I realise it's not going to be as accurate as a piece of medical equipment. Apple watches have been known to save peoples lives who have been in Afib, had a fall etc. they aren't completely rubbish. I don't often do an ecg but now and then I do. I have had anxiety, especially at the moment so please be kind.

OP

Please stop using it.

I spent many years recording and analysing 12 lead ECGs, 24 hour tapes, cardio memos etc etc.

If a lead falls off it ruins the recording, if someone moves it interferes (with 12 lead not 24 hour) with the recording, if someone tenses their muscles it interferes with the ECG.

I doubt an apple watch has ever saved someone's life.

This is making your anxiety worse, please, it's not helping you.

Way back in the 1980s ECG machines started to come out with a 'diagnosis' we cut that part of the ECG off because it was rarely accurate.

I know tech has moved on but the basic physics is you need two points to record the ECG between, on a watch those points are going to e very close together and unless the watch strap is tight enough to cut your circulation off then the two points are highly unlikely to both be in contact with your skin.

I'm not the only person on here who knows how to record and read an ECG, please listen to us.
