Just watching BBC2 program about Bruce.

He has such talent at writing lyrics.

From Badlands,

You spend your life waiting
For a moment that just don't come

Well, don't waste your time waiting

And 'Because the Night'

Not sure which bits Bruce wrote, and which bits were Patty Smith but....

'come on now, try and understand- the way I feel when I'm in your hands'

Secret Garden…

You've gone a million miles
How far'd you get
To that place where You can't remember
And you can't forget

Agreed there is no 'better than the rest'

Like a river that don't know where it's flowing, I took a wrong turn and I just kept going...

Hungry Heart

Talk about a dream, try to make it real
You wake up in the night with a fear so real
You spend your life waiting for a moment that just don't come
Well, don't waste your time waiting

Badlands, you gotta live it everyday
Let the broken hearts stand as the price you've gotta pay

Ifitistobesaid · 26/02/2022 22:36

It's rainin' but there ain't a cloud in the sky
Musta been a tear from your eye
Everything'll be okay
Funny thought I felt a sweet summer breeze
Musta been you sighin' so deep
Don't worry we're gonna find a way
I'm waitin', waitin' on a sunny day

LiveintheNow · 26/02/2022 22:40

It ought to be easy, ought to be simple enough
Man meets a woman and they fall in love
But this house is haunted and the ride gets rough
You've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above
If you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love

Tunnel of love

Brilliant Disguise

I wanna know is it you I don't trust
Cause I damn sure don't trust myself
.....

Tonight our bed is cold
Lost in the darkness of our love
God have mercy on the man
Who doubts what he's sure of

Joystir59 · 26/02/2022 22:56

The whole of Streets of Philadelphia
"I walked a thousand miles just to slip this skin..."

GirlInACountrySong · 26/02/2022 23:04

I love thunder road with Melissa Etheridge ( you tube)

Those lyrics are the best!

LiveintheNow · 26/02/2022 23:15

Also the man is a brilliant storyteller

Highway Patrolman is beautiful and sad

Yeah me and Franky laughin' and drinkin', nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"
I catch him when he's strayin', like any brother would
Man turns his back on his family, well he just ain't no good

Downbound Train
“She just said Joe, I gotta go, we had it once we ain’t got it anymore”

Bobby Jean
“And I’m just calling one last time not to change your mind , but just to say I miss you baby, good luck, good bye Bobby Jean”

They both kill me every time I hear them

I'm loving this thread. I think I've found my people!!

When I hear 'well they blew up a chicken man in Philly last night' i know its going to be good!

So, so many amazing songs to pick from.

Well I stood stone like at midnight.....

GirlInACountrySong · 26/02/2022 23:35

Oh my. Bobby Jean!!

Springsteen was the first concert I ever attended back in the 80's at roundhay park, born to run tour. What a show!

JoeExoticandtheTigers · 26/02/2022 23:37

Well the midnight gangs assemble
And pick a rendezvous for the night
We'll meet neath that giant exon sign
That brings this fair city light
There's an opera out on the turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops cherry tops rip this holy night

Pure poetry

If you love Bruce Springsteen raise your hands!
And if you don't
Raise your standards!Grin

Huge Bruce fan, like pp, one of my favourites is If I Should Fall Behind

Everyone dreams of
A love lasting and true
You and I know what this world can do
So let's make ourselves be
That the other may see
And I'll wait for you
Should I fall behind wait for me

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/03/2022 20:44

I know I'm a bit late here, but how on earth did I miss this?! There are no bad Bruce lyrics, although I'll never claim to understand 'Bishop Danced'! My favourites are Badlands, 'it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive', and the whole of If I Should Fall Behind. I walked into that when we got married.

Scout2016 · 31/03/2022 21:32

I think Bruce wrote the music for Because The Night and Patti Smith the lyrics.

I love all Bruce lyrics, with Tunnel of Love and The Rising possibly favourite albums for lyrics.
All lyrics except these on the song Reno (sorry to lower the tone but oh my it makes me cringe.)

She took off her stockings, I held them to my face.
She had your ankles, I felt filled with grace.
"Two hundred dollars straight in,
Two-fifty up the ass, " she smiled and said. …

Bruce Bruce Bruce, what were you thinking.
