Dr surgery stopping repeat prescription ordering over the phone

At the moment I order my repeats over the phone, then pick up the meds from the chemist 2 days later. Prescription phone line is very well used based on the amount of times I phone and the line is engaged. Dr surgery has now announced that the prescription ordering phone line is going and we either have to do it online or go into the surgery (an expensive bus ride, 2 hour walk or getting a lift) each time and fill out a form. Then there is the added complication that you aren't allowed in the Drs surgery to fill out the form if you or a household member has tested positive for covid (which is understandable but it's another reason why phoning them is easier). To use the online service you need to provide photo id which I haven't got and neither have the dc's. In our town there are a lot of elderly people and lots of families living in poverty. So lots of people who would struggle to use the internet and lots of people with children who don't have passports. Surgery said on their announcement not to phone them to discuss it. I don't get why they are getting rid of their prescription phone line when so many people use/need it.

I've just checked the NHS app and my repeat prescriptions aren't on there. I can't order a one off either so if I need anything I have to contact my GP. Are repeat prescriptions removed if you don't order for a while?

I successfully argued with my GP surgery over this, on principle, not because I don't have ID.

When you go to the surgery in person, no-one asks to see your ID. Anyone could make an appointment in the name Justkeeppedaling, see a GP and get a prescription.

When you phone for a repeat prescription no one asks for ID.

Anyone can collect that prescription from the chemist. You aren't asked for ID - I frequently collect DM's.

You can turn up at A&E and no-one asks for ID.

You can turn up for an operation and no one asks for ID.

Ordering online is more secure than all of those situations - only I have access to my account and email - using the password I set up.

Crazy.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat they might remove repeats that haven't been ordered in a while. Can you still send messages in the medication screen - so click through to order a repeat and at the bottom of my screen is a message box. You could put the request in there.

My chemist reorders all my repeat prescriptions, I don't need to fo anything except pick them all up. If its a PRN thing I just ask the chemist to reorder for me (n the phone) when I need it. You don't need to ring the doctors surgery at all.
If I have a problem with my medication I ask reception to get the GPs pharmacist to call me so we can discuss it on the phone and then they will review my medication for me.

Are they regular medication, "as required" eg. painkillers? I found my husband's co-codamol were never on the records; I had to ask for them.

Should say "or as required".

I think I've realised what's happened. My repeat was for the contraceptive pill and eczema cream. My pill was out of stock for a while and I was prescribed something that didn't agree with me but managed to get my old pill online. I've carried on buying online ever since so I haven't been to the doctors for ages. The same with the eczema cream, I ended up buying it online.
