First Bra

DD is just beginning to grow boobs. I gave her some mini cropped vests but soon she'll want to have something that offers a wee bit of support. Defo not underwires or anything but more like a sports bra. I remember being 11 and wearing my swimming costume at sports day to stop the jiggling- don't want her to have that experience! Can anyone point me in the direction of a place to buy/what to buy?

I think M&S is still the place to go. They have some in the kids department and then the Angles range in the general lingerie one.

I hate their fitting though, I do have quite large boobs and learned a lot of things how a bra should fit and normally go with DD myself and sort her out.

Friends had good experience at John Lewis, you can fit an appointment online. I didn't like their approach that they seem to fit a bra over a top though, how can that be a proper fit.

WithASpider · 25/02/2022 11:49

I would try and find an independent shop for measuring or do it yourself at home. Boob or bust has a good method. Then go to a bra shop and try on several different styles in the measured size and the sister sizes.

Asda do great non wired t shirt bras, you don't really want to spend a small fortune when she'll likely grow out of them quickly.

I had a good experience with John Lewis with my daughter. They have a first bra fitting service (or did precovid). They were very kind and sensitive and she wasn’t fitted over a top.

Yes.

Interesting first post OP.

FlibbertyGiblets · 25/02/2022 12:18

Always an interesting first post about first bras, can't imagine why, I mean it's not like people here are eager to share lots of details about their young girls bodies, oh wait...

Spellfish · 25/02/2022 12:22

I would recommend this crop top in child sizes fromUniqlo (but size down if you have a thin / small child):

I don't think the answer requires any reference to young girls. But the op should know from their own experience or general knowledge that places like M&S or bigger department stores have fitters for just this purpose.

Not sure I get this?? Or the references about first post as I have been on Mumsnet for about 10 years, admittedly with various name changes but definitely not my first post under Lalalalasee! I'm a little shocked at the insinuations here- this has been an honest request for advice.

Anyway thanks for those who replied without casting aspersions. Yes I know of M&S but wasn't sure it was still the go-to place. I don't ever shop there any more. John Lewis hadn't occurred to me. So thank you to those PPs who have helped me out with their advice (also liking the look of the Hollister one so thanks for that).

That's me over and out. Shakes head.

@Lalalalasee I posted this very same question last year and got some good suggestions. I measured DD myself and got the size spot on. I bought a few from the Angel range at M&S which are very soft, slightly padded and no underwire. DD loved them and we’ve since bought a few from Next in a similar size.

Just did a search. Contributed to, or started, 30 posts in this name.

Really didn't think it was such a dodgy question to ask.

@Lalalalasee this was my thread from last year and there were quite a few suggestions.

Thanks, had a read though. I haven't heard of a bralette before and it sounds like it's a nice half way house. The cropped vest tops I have given her are loose and I know she needs something a little closer fitting. Sounds like they might fit the bill.

M&s angels range. Asda and New Look are all good.

It's unfortunate that on a parenting forum with a mainly female user base, a question about a child's bra causes mild scepticism. Unfortunately there is a frequent troll who likes to ask about young girls first bras. Shouldn't be the case but perverts gonna perv I suppose.

Primark do a good range of underwear, I've found.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 25/02/2022 21:02

I stand by my comment even if you are real, a careful reply, as in factual about a place where you can buy them is fine. Discussion about pre pubescent 'jiggling' less so.

Lalalalasee · 25/02/2022 21:42

"even if you are real" ffs

I wonder what I should I have said to explain why I felt that, at the age of 11, I had to wear my swimming costume at sports day.

I was looking for advice, and I justified why. You called troll and you were wrong.

OP posts:
MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 25/02/2022 22:25

Because even if you aren't a troll, threads like this are wank fodder, it's not as black and white as 'I called troll and I was wrong' ffs.

Lalalalasee · 26/02/2022 09:59
