How to get a police crime number

I reported a crime a couple of months ago, the police came out and investigated but I was never given a crime reference number. I need it now for insurance purposes - does anyone know how I can get it?

If you ring 101 they should have a log? Did you report it to them originally?

If they sent someone out then there is definitely a number. Try calling your local police station or 101

You don't say what sort of crime it was, but it's possible it wasn't "crimed" by the police even though they came out - ie given a crime number. Perhaps as an oversight or perhaps they weren't convinced there had been a crime. They would normally send a letter with the crime number on, the investigating officer's name and maybe some information about victim support.
Ring them and ask, quoting the log number if you know it. If not, they should be able to search and find the log for you.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it warranted a 101 call, but I called 101 and they were really efficient about it!

There will always be an incident number, even if the incident wasn't classed as a crime.

I had to ring 101 recently. I was given an incident number while I was on the call.

then I received an email as well.

Including junk.

And there was no Police attendance. I needed the number in case of insurance claim.

Just to clarify, an incident number and a log number means the same thing, whereas a crime number is different. You would get a log/incident number, something like 805-s-250222 when reporting a missing person for example, but not a crime number. A crime number would be something like 22DN- 54321-22.
Glad they were helpful, Op.

If the police has came and bust your door in, when you were out. Meant to be checking to see i was safe. There were 2 incident numbers. When i phone enquiring they say i have to go in and fill out a form. Does anyone know if this is the proper way.
