Budget for teenager

I'm fed up of cooking for my 14 year old DS. He's got really fussy and moans about what I make so I've said he can have a budget, come to the supermarket with me at the weekend and plan and make his own dinners. He's very much up for this. I think it will probably last for a couple of weeks, he'll then get fed up and hopefully stop moaning. Or, he'll do well with it and he'll learn a few life skills. He can cook very basic stuff already and I don't mind giving him a hand if he gets stuck. I'm going to say he does need to make sure there is a healthy element to the week's meals!

Anyway, how much do you think I should give him for the week? We have take away once a week so he says he'll do the other 6 days (we will see!)

Whats your normal food budget and what are you including in his? Can he use the milk? The teabags? Spices? Are you a waitrose or lidl shopper?

I worked out I spent around a fiver per person per day but that included cleaning materials, toilet paper etc

He's literally only making the evening meal. Everything else I'll buy as normal.

£15 -£20 Depending on your budget/how much you would usually spend per head on an evening meal.

My 1st year uni student said he spent about £30 a fortnight in Aldi last term. He had an initial shop that would have included one offs, but I suspect you'd have those in the house for him to use anyway (oil, spices etc).
