Calling all new mums!
Would you be open to contributing towards research looking at the experiences of maternal transition?
I’m conducting a research project as part of completing my MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at Warwick University and I’m hoping to shed light on the experiences of first-time mothers to better support and inform psychotherapy and counselling practice.
Maternal transition is understood to be a time of considerable change physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually in a person’s life and yet there is very little research about what actually happens during this period from a mother’s perspective.
The aim of this research project is to capture the ‘everyday’ experiences of new mums to help understand and address modern maternal mental health training, support and preparedness within the sphere of psychotherapy and counselling.
I’m therefore looking for participants who identify as being a mother, 6-12 months after their first child’s arrival, to explore and better understand this experience.
Participation from all those who identify as a mother including (but not limited to) non-birth, surrogate, adoptive, non-biological and those from diverse cultural, social and relational backgrounds is actively encouraged.
The research process will involve a 1-1 in-depth interview and creative activities and has been reviewed and given favourable opinion by the University of Warwick, Centre for Lifelong Learning, Research Ethics Committee.
If you are interested, or would like to understand more about the research, please do get in touch. [email protected]
