Mine has just arrived, from £866 to £1491. Ridiculous.

TheSnowyOwl · 22/02/2022 16:09

Our unit price has gone up so much but everyone else is in the same situation or will be when their fixed tariffs end.

StiggyZardust · 22/02/2022 16:16

That's my gas bill. I presume the electricity will be equally as bad.

My combined bill has gone up from £128 pm to £247 pm, assuming the same usage. There.must be many people for whom this is an absolute disaster.

The new cap is x2 what I was paying for electricity and x3 the old gas unit price

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 22/02/2022 16:51

I've been over paying my electricity and gas so that when the tarrif hits hopefully it's manageable. Its the standing charge increasing that angers me, so even if you cut down to the bare minimum usage it's still going to cost £££.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 22/02/2022 17:25

Just got an email here too, an increase of £941 for the year ffs

Ilovetommycat · 22/02/2022 17:33

I agree with pp about the increase in the standing charge. There is absolutely no reason for this other than keeping their profits as high as possible.
If we all cut back on usage then the companies don't need to buy or store so much wholesale gas.
This useless government and ofgem could easily step in on this but we all know they won't.
Less power/heat for a much higher cost.
Furious.

crossstitchingnana · 22/02/2022 17:35

Mines increased by £1112

nanabow · 22/02/2022 17:40

This terrifies me.

I'm currently on maternity leave with SMP, we planned out all our finances and saved us enough money for me to take 9 months leave. But didn't factor in this huge jump in bills.

Looks like I'll have to return to work early.... with my whole salary just going on childcare and bill increases.

I was just having this conversation.

I give monthly readings so I am satisfied my new rate is based on my consumption. However is I keep my consumption down then surely it will help at a later stage as my account will be in credit and my monthly DD can be reduced?

Can anyone confirm this is correct?

If not, and I am paying a high rate regardless, then I am not going to start making cut backs.

It's the standing charge too. That's gone up massively. I can't remember the exact figure but it's gone up by something like .24p a day to .47p a day.

crossstitchingnana · 23/02/2022 10:35

My standing charge is going up from 8.4 a day to 43.39 for electricity and from 8.4 to 27.22 for gas.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 23/02/2022 10:41

Ours has gone up by £70pm to £136. We are affording it by cutting spending elsewhere. Netflix, Disney+, eating out, cinema etc.

Pedallleur · 23/02/2022 10:49

from £1500 to over £2k. Thats how its going to be now and the Ukraine thing hasnt filtered thro'

Who are you with?
CorrBlimeyGG · 23/02/2022 10:55

That's correct, if you keep your consumption down then your predicted usage will reduce, and your bill will be less than expected.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 23/02/2022 10:55

I'm happily sitting back and letting my supplier overestimate my bills at the moment.

My electric meter reads 89046 and my latest estimated reading is 92177. By my reckoning I've already paid for at least the next 12 month's energy supply at today's lower rates.
