Do you watch what you eat?

Just me being nosey I suppose but do you make wise food choices or do you eat whatever, whenever and not give two hoots? I work in a supermarket and I love to observe behaviours. for example you'll get a really petite person declining the multi pack of chocolate, favouring the single bar ( which is the same price) or putting back the crisps because they had a packet at lunch. Do you subconsciously do this ? I wish I had their discipline

Yes I am very mindful of what I eat. I don’t go down the sweets/ crisps/ biscuit aisles as it is just temptation. I only buy convenience foods occasionally and not on a weekly basis (except for almond milk).

On a weekly basis I buy lots of vegetables, tofu, almond milk and sometimes soya yoghurt. I have a store cupboard with herbs, pulses, pasta, nuts, seeds etc in which I restock as needed. If on my period then I will often buy a bar of vegan chocolate and will pop to the shops for an individual portion of crisps approx once a week when I fancy them.

I have always taken a great interest in health and nutrition. More as I got older and slowly gained a bit more weight.

Overall yes I am very careful. Since the menopause I rarely crave chocolate. One of the pluses to the days of the monthlies being over with...!

At the moment yes I am as I am trying to lose weight. Before I had my children, I didn't and was always super slim.

I love hearing your responses. I do generally try to watch but I am guilty of buying too many sweets/ chocolate. I'm trying to curb this by intermittent fasting which is helping massively. It is shocking how many overweight people buy colossal amounts of junk food, ready meals, sugar loaded treats. At the same time I bought a packet of strawberries for £2:50 and there was literally 6 in the box. Maybe it's just cheaper to buy junk which is disgraceful really.

Yes I do - my genes mean I put on weight very easily, I was a fat child from an early age. I am now one of those petite people that will put the crisps back sometimes - I can be disciplined. However, i do love food and if I want something I don't deny myself it always - in fact I can be very unhealthy which gives the impression to people that I'm 'one of those lucky ones' 🤣 what they don't realise is that I'm so unhealthy that those 3 packs of crisps I devour at my desk are instead of proper breakfast and lunch...... 🤦🏻‍♀️
I have been such a yo-yo dieter over the years from a young age - however, it seems to in sort have paid off as I presumed when I was pregnant that I would be left with a horrendously flabby belly after birth as I have never had a 'tight' or really flat stomach (even when I was verging on underweight) but actually all the years of stretching and deflating my stomach has meant it has just gone back to virtually what it was pre-pregnancy 🤣🤣🤣

megletthesecond · 22/02/2022 13:48

Yes. I'm lucky and have a good cut off point when I've had enough.

EssexLioness · 22/02/2022 14:50

I will add that it is much easier to be disciplined in the supermarket than at home. If I did buy mountains of junk food then I would eat it without thinking. If it’s not in the house then I can’t.

GrendelsGrandma · 22/02/2022 14:56

Yes, otherwise I find I drop it all down my front.

MrsDThomas · 22/02/2022 15:00

Ive never been a healthy eater, salads etc bore me. I haven’t changed my eating habits at all, I always have breakfast, then eat when im hungry. Sometimes im just thirsty and i drink a lot of water through the day.

Never been on a diet, i run lots, walk too.

But now im 47, I notice im rounding up, and absolutely not eating more. Hitting that special time in a woman’s life is to blame.

MrsDThomas · 22/02/2022 15:00

Oh, forgot to add im a size 10.

Dentistlakes · 22/02/2022 15:03

Yes I do because otherwise I become overweight. I know how awful I feel when I’m overweight and unfit and I’m not going back there. It took a lot of effort to get the weight off and get some fitness (still work in progress) and now I’m in my early 50’s I’ve realised it’s important for my future health.

ifonly4 · 22/02/2022 15:43

No point in me being disciplined in the supermarket - I have two within a ten minute walk, so if I haven't got and really want it I'll go out. I do try and balance things out at home though, so proper meals and fruit.

gunnersgold · 22/02/2022 15:47

Yes , I do . I'm 5 foot and gain weight easily! I'm constantly trying to make good choices ! It's boring but I don't like being fat !

MunchyMonsters · 22/02/2022 16:07

Mostly, yes.

Once you get into the habit of something it's pretty easy to do.

Libertybear80 · 22/02/2022 16:13

Just come back from Tescos. I've started Noom so had some fruit, low fat halloumi, brown sourdough, some salmon fillets.

A few weeks ago it would have been crisps, cheese, cereal, wine. 🤣

The2Omicronnies · 22/02/2022 16:14

Yes I do. I eat very low calorie meals (breakfast approx 150 cals, lunch under 300 cals and dinner around 400 cals) but only because I do like to snack and allowing myself little sweet treats keeps me on track. 3 coffees a day too, which is less than ideal.

Borracha · 22/02/2022 16:17

I’m all or nothing when it comes to food. I either eat extremely well - varied diet, no snacking, sensible portions etc OR I eat Monster Munch for breakfast and polish off 8 biscuits at a time.

At the moment I’m five months post partum and really motivated to shift the last of my baby weight so am in a ‘good’ eating phase but this time next month it could be completely different and I could be 5kg up.
