Change my awful eating habits

Hello,

Ever since my child was born I’ve just been eating rubbish as it was initially easier to eat that way due to the lack of time. Now I just feel like an addict constantly craving sugary foods and drinks.

Please share some tips to change my unhealthy eating habits.

Why don't you start with one meal a day to make healthy - so pick one, eg dinner, and eat a healthy dinner. Then once you're in the swing of that you can think about how to make lunches healthier. Once you're eating 3 healthy meals a day you can start to cut down on snacks. So do it gradually in other words.

I think it's better and easier to focus on eating the good stuff first rather than trying to cut out the bad stuff (except maybe the fizzy drinks, as they are really awful with no nutritional benefit at all and terrible for your body and teeth). So I would let yourself eat the cake and chocolate or whatever for now if and when you want it, but focus on cooking and eating real food too. Get your five a day, with plenty of vegetables in the mix. If your general diet improves you will find that you feel better and will probably naturally start to eat less sugar without the pressure of "being on a diet".

@Hope54321 oh wow this is 100% me!! How long ago was your baby born? My son is 8months old and I'm just not taking care of myself. I miss meals a lot and when I do eat the food has zero nutritional value 80% of the time and the level of sugar I'm eating is actually frightening. I don't know how to stop. I tell myself I will but then the next day is as frantic and busy and the day before and I just survive on what I can 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is great advice Smile

I'd go for quick stuff like microwaved spuds, baked beans, cheese, toast, peanut butter, eggs, banana, full fat natural yogurt You need carbs for energy - but not so much in the form of sugar.

Been thinking of changing my whole way of life so started this morning with probiotic yoghurt and a satsuma. Not having anything till lunch where I am having soup and a sandwich but haven't worked out dinner yet. I need to find will power but I'm at the stage whereit's now or never so am thinking positive. Good luck.

Aim for 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. Prioritise veg with meals. Even if you have a ready meal or cheese on toast, have some veg or salad with it.
Drink lots of water throughout the day because being well hydrated can help to cut down on snacking.
The best thing I found was to cut out wheat for a while. It’s not that it’s bad but I was relying on wheat based products like bread, biscuits, pizza, cake, wraps and pasta. Once I excluded that, I was forced to make healthier choices and ended up having much more nutritious food.
So I ended up having things like porridge or yoghurt and a bit of muesli and fruit for breakfast or beans and a bit of cheese on a portobello mushroom. I hate eggs but they would be a good option.
Soups or interesting salads for lunch and then normal family dinners.
Snacking on fruit, olives or hummus and carrot sticks.

Are you me?

I've eaten a whole pack of jam n creams for breakfast!

I do a week of being really good. Then it goes tits up. And have a week of pure crap.
I feel exhausted if I don't eat the junk. And I know it's my body on a come down but I can't function when I feel like that eg I drove to inlaws the other day and I honestly drove in a daze without realising as when I got there I couldn't remember the drive!

My issue is when u have a good week I'm prob too strict. And eat the same breakfast and lunch.
When I'm not healthy eating I never eat a lunch.

I am working on it.
I like the sound of change 1 meal a day.
Our dinners are generally healthy but it's the sheer snacking in between.

I am the same at the moment with odd bits of eating well but also eating way too much chocolate.

I am definitely not in a position to give advice lol but I have read that starting off with a decent breakfast should really help. So maybe have some acrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. It’s quick and easy but should set you up well for the day with lots of protein.
