Are they reliable?! Has anyone used one and can recommend? Thinking this would be much quicker/easier than going via gp if successful.

For an iGE or none iGE allergy? What are the symptoms?

Yarnivore · 21/02/2022 20:49

Complete waste of money.

Ooh good question - what is a non IGE allergy? It's for food - DS has always had digestion issues and we've cut stuff out, then reintroduced it. He's been up and down and we've never quite got to the bottom of it. Been reading up a lot online lately and thought bloods for allergy testing would be a good idea to rule it out.

@Yarnivore why? Are they different to the blood test done in a hospital?

It sounds like none iGE allergy. The only way to test is to remove the foods and then introduce one at a time.

My LO has allegies and all of the advice from dieticians and doctors are not to do the blood tests or buy your own tests. How long did you cut things out for?

Yarnivore · 21/02/2022 20:54

The tests you see advertised all over the internet are bogus. I don't know why they're allowed to be sold.

Digestive problems wouldn't usually be an IgE allergy so can't be tested for (unless you suspect coeliac which can be tested for, though isn't an allergy).

spikeyprofile · 21/02/2022 20:57

Ok, thank you. He doesn't have dramatic symptoms at all but his poo's have just never looked right. We've had quite a long time off dairy and wheat but then reintroduced them. I'm just never sure what to do for the best because nothing seems very obvious. I wish it was as simple as a test!

How old is he? And what do you mean by don’t look right? What does your GP say?

spikeyprofile · 21/02/2022 21:16

He's 8, he's been under a consultant previously and had various investigators. There was talk of coeliac testing but it was along the lines of 'if you want to' rather than advising us to do it. Just did cutting stuff out but don't feel like the change was that dramatic. Poo's come out with some force and are soft, sometimes colour is a bit strange.

Coeliac testing seems like a very sensible first step. Is there any reason why you haven't pursued that? It is just a blood test initially.
