Baby name adelynn

User19903 · 20/02/2022 09:11

Ive been searching through names and added adelynn to the list (Addie for short)

I recently seen my step sister used this name for her now 1 year old..

I didn’t realise until I seen a social media post..

We don’t speak and I haven’t had any contact with her since we found out we were step disorders ( same father)

Our father isn’t in any of our life either and we are like strangers to each other.

So my question is would it be wrong for me to use the name adelynn for my little girl.

Her little one is spelt adaline

Why would it be wrong to use that name?

Uafasach · 20/02/2022 10:13

You can use the name.

I know biological cousins (who have a close relationship) with the same name and nobody is bothered by it.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:15

That’s reassuring , they most likely will
Never be in contact with each other,
Just myself and sister in law will
Probably see each other’s post on social media but that’s as far as it goes,

It's fine, you're not it touch. Its just a nice coincidence rather than treading on anyone's toes. I prefer Adeline as a spelling tbh.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:17

Nothing set in stone about the spelling way yet,
But just not going to spell it adaline

Maybe adeline, adelyn, adelynn, addilyn , just to be different

OP posts:
User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:18

I actually don’t no if she pronounces it Ada- line or
Ade-line

itwasntaparty · 20/02/2022 10:20

Don't change the spelling just to be different.

AlphabetStew · 20/02/2022 10:21

I would pronounce 'Adaline' and 'Adelynn' differently. 'line' vs 'lin'.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/02/2022 10:22

I like Adeline (which my Scottish friend of that name pronounces Adelynn). I've never seen Adelynn with that spelling, I don't think.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:23

I don’t want her to see my posts when the baby is born with the same
Name incase she thinks I’ve took it from
Her 😂 , out of all the baby girls names I could choose!

I most certain haven’t taken it though ! X

Go for it, no one can own a name!
Addy is a cute nickname (I know one!)

islamann · 20/02/2022 10:26

If you're not in contact with her why is she on your Facebook? If she really must be for family reasons then use the settings so she doesn't see any of your posts.

Fwiw her opinion means nowt.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:27

All those spellings come up from under the same name so I guess it’s different how people pronounce
Plus we live opposite ends of England I’m south she’s north so we may pronounce differently anyways x

As someone else has said, don't spell is incorrectly just to be different. You're setting her up for a lifetime of having to spell her name for people. You also have to decide you want to pronounce it - Ad-a-line or A-da-leen (in which case you should spell it Adeline).

Plus Addy is a hideous nickname for an otherwise beautiful name.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:32

When we were 18 (14 years ago) we met once and it fizzled out quite quickly.
We have our aunties on Facebook, she’s never really been a part of my dads family though ( he died when I was 2) she was an unborn child at the time,
Not to mention there was always trouble for my mum through my dads side and off him too.

I speak to my aunties now and then but very occasionally, not many Events they get invited to.

It’s mainly just myself and 3 full brothers that have contact with our mums side.

You can’t pronounce ‘lynn’ as ‘line’. It’s just wrong and she will be forever correcting it.

Adaline and Adelynn are not the same name.
Similar but different.

This! Decide how you want to pronounce the name and pick the correct spelling from there.

😂😂
The Adilynn I know whose nickname is Addy is from the US & its pronounced like Ad - ee.
I think its cute 🤭

User19903 · 20/02/2022 10:48

Which is the correct spelling for
Addi - lynn

OP posts:
Surelyitscoffeetime · 20/02/2022 11:12

Similar but sufficiently different could be Adelaide? You could still shorten to Addy.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/02/2022 12:05

The one I know spells it Adelyn (she’s 8 and Canadian). Love it!

Your sister is never going to know this though.

Given the name isn't a top 50 one, it is going to look at though you've "taken her name"

I know no-one owns a name, I know you live at opposite ends of the country, I know you don't see each other in person and only have a few friends in common on S.M but to her it will look like you've been influenced by her name. If you can live with that then go ahead.

OutdoorType · 20/02/2022 12:41

I think you can call your child whatever you want but I've never heard of Adelynn as a name and I think the kid will spend her life correcting spelling/pronunciation. Adeline or Adaline are much nicer.

User19903 · 20/02/2022 12:59

I think adaline is pronounced like Madeline without the M

Same would be for adeline

I like it pronounced ad - uh - lin.

Google suggests adelyn adelynn for this

It’s definitely a ‘name’

OP posts:
OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 20/02/2022 13:23

Adelyn for the pronunciation you want. Ending with lyn = linn rhyming with win.

Adeline/adaline would end with line rhyming with dine.

Two separate albeit similar names. I prefer Adelyn for what it's worth.
