How can I try to change a road speed limit?

Looking for advice. A road very close to my home is 50mph.

This is a road where children walk to and from school everyday, a roundabout on one end and a care home on the other. We hear cars doing at least 80mph on this small stretch of road and it also has no lights.

I've looked on the council website but can't see where to go.. Could I write to my local MP?

Transport department of your council. And write to your MP. Fair warning, though, changing speed limits requires a lengthy process of consultation (approx 18 months in Scotland) and that’s after the council has agreed to start the ball rolling in the first place. That tends not to happen on one person’s request - you need multiple complaints and even then it probably won’t move unless there have been accidents or a fatality on that stretch of road.

My DD’s school did this a while back. They did a whole campaign, got a certain amount of signatures from local residents, provided statistics on accidents that have happened as a direct result of speeding. It was a lengthy but worthwhile cause.
I agree your local MP and transport department of council would be your first point of call. Get figures to back up what you are saying. Good luck
