Should I fill the freezer with Cook ready meals

I'm pregnant and tired all the time. Dp doesn't really cook. I keep coming in from work and eating crap or ordering takeaway. My iron's pretty low.

Would a freezer full of Cook ready meals and sides be a good solution? It's really expensive but I'm guessing this is reflected in quality and nutrition and far better than a chippy.

I feel like it would be worth it to have something in that's decent when I can't cook. Yes or no? Any alternatives?

Charlie Bighams are better and cheaper

MaitreKarlsson · 19/02/2022 23:29

If you can afford it, just do it.
Had a horrible week recently - knew it would be really full on at work, DC acting up and DH away. Don't normally do Cook but it was worth every penny to know it was all sorted.
Agree with PP who said cheaper to batch cook but 100% more faff. And if I was pregnant that would be another thing I could do without

I'd buy Tupperware and make slow cooker meals tbh.
Anyone can make slow cooker meals that you can freeze.

Bung in a load of mince and tomato's.
Have it with 5 different pouches of microwave rice Monday to Friday.

Make a Bolognese big enough to freeze.

Sling in a gammon joint. Shred it. Have it on sarnies with a healthy squeeze of BBQ sauce.

So on and so on

In your shoes I absolutely would!

I just had a look to start picking some meals and new parents get 10% off for the first year…

What about M&S?

Stuff like the stir fry offer where you get a protein choice, noodles, veg and sauce for £6. All ready prepped and takes 5 minutes.

Also some of the healthier ready meals that are just things like salmon, veg and potatoes. Or fishcakes with bagged salad.

Probably cheaper than Cook. Also have things like omelette or eggs or beans on toast. Surely DH can manage stuff like that without harming himself?

M&S is a good shout actually. It means going into the shop after work one day but can manage that. Their stuff is delicious.

Or you can get it delivered by Ocado.

M&S is calorie laden and full of additives - they add sugars to make it even edible

The scratch range in Waitrose is good, they take 10 mins or so and taste better than ready meals. Gousto is good but check the cooking instructions before you confirm your selection, some are more faffy, ditto HelloFresh.

If you like fish, that's my go to for quick - serve with salad and ready made couscous for instance
