Flash Mobs

I just fell down a YouTube rabbit hole of flash mobs as I love them but they always make me a bit tearful in a good way, no idea why!

They fascinate me as the preparation must take ages and how do people rehearse if they are held in a massive public place?

Have you ever witnessed one or taken part in one? I’d love to hear your stories about them. The ones that do the rounds on social media are usually brilliant but are they ever a little bit shit or just don’t take off?

I like the one where all those people did bohemian rhapsody on the underground. It wasn't a professional one though, just randoms singing. This teens face was priceless though.

@Triotriotrio

I was in a shopping centre years ago and one started. It was so amazing to watch.

Another time I was in St Pancras train station late one night and someone started playing Piano Man on the piano in the station. Totally unprompted people started singing along until there was a mob of us singing. Then it finished and we all walked away hurriedly! It was one of the best experiences ever. Can't put my finger on why, still makes me happy to think of it

Years ago I was on the tube after watching the New Years fireworks in London. I can't remember how it started, but it ended up with everyone in the carriage singing together - auld Lang syne, songs in the charts at the time, then the national anthem, followed by people from other counties singing their own national anthems. When the other anthems were sung, the rest of the carriage either listened or tried to join in as best as they could.

It was such a lovely feeling of togetherness - everyone was feeling happy and relaxed

I was at this one years ago. Didn’t take part but heard it was happening and was in the area. Was excellent fun!

Sorry title didn’t load. It was a Spaced flash mob!

I like the old style flash mobs, where people gradually wander into a station or town square and start dancing or performing, wedding performances aren't, to my mind, actual flash mobs as often the performers are guests anyway. They don't seem as good as they used to be.

However, I do like this one.

Oh wow, I love that one @supercritter. I've seen it ago (and had a crush on the conductor then too).

My DH, my DD9 and I were in Chamonix back in 1995 waiting for the lift to go up the Aigulle du Midi. There was a long wait due to so many people coming down fro the viewing platform. At least 30 people of different nationalities all standing waiting. My DD suddenly started sing "Frere Jacque". Everyone started joining in until almost everyone was singing along. It was so spontaneous and really beautiful.

Fab links, thank you all.

@Bluebellbike how wonderful! What a great memory for you all.

A friend starting singing American Pie in a nightclub in Whistler at the end of the night as everyone was starting to leave and everyone stayed to join in; that was a fun moment.

Is my favourite one. Because it's mostly teenage kids, the dancing isn't all slick and professional and perfect, and they all look like they're having such an amazing time.
