Well that was worrying!!

DD1 has been unwell since yesterday morning. She’s dizzy, bright red cheeks and no energy. She’s hot but doesn’t have a temperature. Shes thrown up twice.

So she’s on the couch watching telly and goes for a nap. Sleeps for about 20 minutes then wakes up and gets up quite quickly. She says “he has almost as many …. as me” while looking at the dog. I ask her what did she say and she repeats it but I still can’t understand the word she’s saying. She then takes off and opens the front door! I grab her and she says she wants to go to the bathroom, so I take her there. She kinda comes round there but me and DH were looking at each other going WTF.

I’m thinking she just woke up disoriented/sleepwalking as she’s fine again but that was worrying for a minute.

I would call 111. She sounds like hallucinating which often comes with a high temp but I’d want to talk to someone about that.

watcherintherye · 19/02/2022 14:45

Is she prone to sleepwalking anyway? It sounds like the kind of thing I’d associate with having a fever and being slightly delirious, but you say she doesn’t have a temperature? Glad she’s ok now.

Bonbon21 · 19/02/2022 14:48

How old is she?

Delirious, I’d get some medical advice.

Hellocatshome · 19/02/2022 14:51

If she is prone to sleepwalking/talking thats one things but if not I would ring 111 for advice.

Playhousearmy · 19/02/2022 14:52

She’s 8. We’re in Ireland and don’t have 111. We do have an out of hours GP service but she’s “ok” now.

If it happens again I’ll call the out of hours service.

How high is her temperature ? That sounds like she is delirious.

Playhousearmy · 19/02/2022 14:53

She does have form for talking in her sleep but not sleepwalking.

Temp was 36.2 - down from 36.8 earlier. I’ve given neurophen.

My 6 year old does this. When it happens, I ask her if she knows who I am and she says no! She genuinely doesn't know. I sleep Talk/walk, so I'm guessing she's the same.

AladdinPrincess999 · 19/02/2022 14:57

But my child doesn't do it when unwell though.

hashbrownsandwich · 19/02/2022 14:58

Possible UTI symptom.

BashfulClam · 19/02/2022 15:04

I hallucinate and have vivid nightmares with a high temperature.

watcherintherye · 19/02/2022 15:10

I meant to put in my previous post, make sure that she can’t access the front door key, or that the door is securely locked, just in case she wakes up similarly in the night.

evrey · 19/02/2022 15:27

I would second possible uti , seems to send people delirious.

tkwal · 19/02/2022 15:29

Sounds like she has erythema infectiosum/slapped cheek syndrome. It's caused by human parvovirus B19 and is infectious. Usually managed by painkillers. Goes away on its own. As previous poster mentioned, fever can cause hallucinations.

TheUsualShitshow · 19/02/2022 15:33

My son does this usually just before his fever breaks.

Once he thought my Dad was on the ceiling above his head, that was weird! But it only lasts a few minutes, then by the time I take his temp again it'll have come down a bit.

I remember hallucinating when I was little too, and in bed ill.

AutumnOrange · 19/02/2022 15:41

That sounds like the symptoms my son had with Omicron

Playhousearmy · 19/02/2022 15:42

I remember being really sick and thinking cats were building a city on top of my body!

tkwal Looked it up and that's a definite possibility. Although to be fair her cheeks always go bright red. She had flu a few years ago and the doctors kept asking was she sunburned (we were in Florida). She wasn't, it was just her cheeks, I wonder if it's something to do with being a redhead.

Actually talking of her having flu, it was very similar to how she is now. A bit all over the place with symptoms and up and down with how she's feeling.

Good call on the front door, I'll be sure to take the key out tonight.

Luckily D2D is on a sleepover with PIL so DD1 can sleep in her bed. DD1 is usually on the top bunk of their bunk bed but that might not be the safest tonight.

Might also be a migraine. When my son was 10 he had a migraine that lasted for 4 days and ended up with a visit to a hospital - whilst we were on holiday, mind - because he didn't recognise me, tried to walk out of the chalet we were staying in, and denounced his older sister as a demon...

Luckily, we know that he has a history of migraines (his were triggered by a traumatic head injury at the age of 3) and I knew to get him to the nearest A&E immediately. He was given medication and sent "home" (back to the campsite) within 10 hours. But it was absolutely the scariest moment of my life parenting him (along with his older sister stopping breathing in my arms at 3 days old!).

I hope your daughter feels a lot better, very soon.

DickeryDock · 19/02/2022 18:30

My son has night terrors, they are awful as he screams “mummy” whilst hitting me and trying to get away from me as he doesn’t realise it’s me 😢 They always accompany a high temp.
