How did Covid affect your toddler?

Hello! I’ve come down with Covid and so has DH, and now two year old DS has it too. I feel absolutely god awful. Chills, cough, raw throat, everything hurts and aches. Can’t sleep.
It’s so much worse than I was naively expecting.
Most friends of mine with toddlers say they had no symptoms at all but DS has an upset stomach and a bit of a cough. Gone off his food.
It’s making me a bit worried even though he seems ok and quite cheery.

Just wondered how it affected everyone else’s toddlers? I know nobody can tell me how it can go but did they have symptoms too rather than being asymptomatic?

Just realised I should have put this in the Covid topic sorry

No symptoms whatsoever for mine. Was annoyed he had to isolate!

Hangingtrousers · 18/02/2022 21:36

He was a bit sleepy for about 20 mins... then totally fine despite testing positive for the next 10 days.

Hmm ok. I’m hoping it’s going to stay mild for him as I feel terrible

Toddler was grumpy and had a slight temperature for 12h. 6 yo had a temperature and slept for 24h. Both were bored as hell for their isolation and ours (adults tested positive 6 days after kids) and unbelievably crazy while we were feeling like death!

EcoCustard · 18/02/2022 21:57

All the family had Covid over Christmas. I felt truly rubbish for 10 days, sweats, chills, aches, exhaustion & sore eyes. Dc4 2.5 had a temperature for 24 hours and was a little sweaty & chills. He lost all appetite and slept more for a few days but was ok. Lots of Fluids, test and calpol. My 3 other Dc were similar symptoms wise. the worst bit was when they all felt better and DH & I were still poorly.

QforCucumber · 18/02/2022 22:02

We had it a couple of weeks ago, dh and I all jabbed - I was so unbelievably congested it felt like a sinus infection. dH felt rough like really hungover and not with it for 3 or 4 days. Ds1 (almost 6) 2 days of upset stomach and high temp, DS2 (19 months) who brought it home from nursery - not a single symptom bar a streaming snotty nose

youhadmeatjello · 18/02/2022 22:20

Interesting! I’ve found the blocked up nose the absolute worst.
DS has now got a temp of 38 - he had calpol at 6pm when he went to bed so given him nurofen as he seemed like he was suffering. Will check on him in a bit, hopefully it will help him get some restful sleep and he will be on the mend tomorrow.

I’m desperate for some sleep tonight but feel blocked up and wide awake again. I think I might actually cry if I don’t sleep tonight!

DS had an afternoon of a bit of a temp but that was it. He was quite snotty for a week or so but that's a general state of affairs really! He had a non-Covid virus over Christmas which was far worse and knocked him out for 3 weeks or so. Covid was nothing really. His whole nursery class have had it at various points and none of them have had many symptoms at all.

youhadmeatjello · 18/02/2022 22:35

Hopefully he won’t get many then! He seems in a bit of discomfort but was still running about and bossing me around before bed and has had plenty of energy today so seems ok.
I think I was just expecting him not to have any symptoms at all as it seems like most kids his age don’t get any.
He has just recovered from another cough and chicken pox though so maybe he’s a bit run down at the moment.

youhadmeatjello · 19/02/2022 07:41

He’s had a temp all night but it’s shot up to 38.9 this morning so just given him more calpol. Hoping it comes down as he’s really distressed at the moment and acting shivery etc.
Poor little thing. I really wasn’t expecting him to get like this

My boys had it last week. Baby and toddler. It was hell. Temps of 40 for 5 days straight. Headaches, vomiting, extremely irritable, crying non stop, not sleeping, aching legs, refused to eat for a week. Still nothing exhausted and mild temps on and off, still very irritable.

user1471481356 · 19/02/2022 08:18

Not nothing, ‘completely exhausyed’

Mumoblue · 19/02/2022 08:21

DS got it around the same time I did, I was wiped out and coughing constantly, but he just had the odd cough and a bit of a temperature.

Nomorescreentime · 19/02/2022 08:25

My DS just had a bit of a temperature for one day. My 2yo nephew caught it and ended up in hospital for 3 nights, it triggered lots of secondary infections. He recovered quickly though, it just seemed to be very bad luck! It’s the same as any virus isn’t it, individual experiences will vary. Hope he’s over it soon op

glasslightly · 19/02/2022 08:26

I have felt god awful like you for 5 days. 7 year old vomited three times yesterday (apparently about 10% of children have gastrointestinal symptoms). Toddler has had a temp just under 40 for about 20 hours, comes down with calpol. No vomiting (yet). Slight cough. We're all throughly miserable, it's been a truly rubbish half term.

emzz8 · 19/02/2022 08:31

My toddler had temperature and a cough for a few days and my baby (6months) had temperature for a few days and a cough for 2 weeks

Camomila · 19/02/2022 08:42

He had a temperature and a runny nose for a couple of days, and was fussy food wise (Think he may have had a sore throat as only wanted fruit, milk, and mini milks).

It was about the same level of illness as most of his nursery colds, and much less ill than when he had a chest infection.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/02/2022 08:43

I’m also struggling to sleep with covid, just feel so wide awake! So weird! Wonder why it is?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 19/02/2022 08:49

Mine was really tetchy and out of sorts but brightened up with a dose of Calpol. it didn't hit him as hard as the cough and cold he'd brought back from nursery s couple of weeks before.

Though wierdly, both him and his brother had upset stomachs on their separate day 11's.

Latenightreader · 19/02/2022 09:09

Toddler had a high temperature in the early hours for a couple of days, was tired for a week, and complained about a nasty taste. My mother and I (all in the same house) had the full on aches, chills, headache, nasty cough etc. Thankfully we were staggered so one of us was able to cope with the toddler when the other couldn't get out of bed.

youhadmeatjello · 19/02/2022 14:04

It’s a real mix isn’t it! I dosed up last night with night nurse and throat sweets, ginger and lemon tea, magnesium, vitamin c and it could be coincidence but I slept and feel so much better today.
DS is very up and down still, he seems really poorly when his fever spikes and only tag teaming nurofen and calpol is keeping it down at the moment but he rallies fast! Also very picky with food, asked for cereal and pudding this morning for breakfast 😂 just trying to keep him drinking lots.

DH is now properly rough with it too, fever, chills, aches, the works so thank god one of us feels okay ish!

Hope everyone else who is suffering feels better, what a rubbish weekend but also very very grateful it’s not worse (touch wood and all that jazz)

I'm on day 5 OP. Feel a bit better today than I have done. Hope all of you recover soon. X

youhadmeatjello · 20/02/2022 15:37

Thank you! I was feeling a bit better yesterday but DS had a rough night with fever again so I feel rough myself today probably due to lack of sleep.
Really hoping he manages to shift the fever soon as then we will all start feeling better!

Hello, I know this thread is a bit old but just wondering how everyone's child got on?

I tested positive for covid Tuesday and now DS (age 2) spiked a fever last night and it's not breaking. He's warm to the touch except for his feet and hands. Nose is dripping like a faucet, coughs, chills, fussy, etc.
Waiting for the GP to get back to us with some info but in the meantime, I wanted to ask if anyone else had this and how long it lasted?

Thanks!!
