Just wondered if anyone has seen this and if it is worth going to see?
It's on a reasonably locally to us near Christmas and I'm thinking about taking my neice.

Is it suitable for a 6 year old?
Thanks for any info

It’s fab and fine for a 6 year old!

Comefromaway · 18/02/2022 14:43

I saw it in London. We really enjoyed it.

However they made a lot of changes for the Broadway production (got rid of the best songs and had adults playing the children) and it was awful.

The upcoming production is totally new and I don't know which version it is going to be based on.

ChessieFL · 18/02/2022 15:22

Oh, I didn’t realise it was a different version. We saw it in London too.

Differences between London & Broadway version

Charlie's father is cut from Broadway
Candy Man & I've Got a Golden Ticket added
Charlie played by a child but all others played by adults
Almost Nearly Perfect cut
If Your Father Were Here implies Charlie's father has died

Oh. I didn't realise that there is more than one version. That's interesting.
I think that I will book to take her. I'm sure that she'll love the experience, even if the show is not quite what I was expecting.

Saw it in London and was really disappointed with it. They didn't even sing the oompa loomoa song!

The parts were played by kids who were all quite screechy. The story was different... don't understand why they mess with a very well-known story! Wouldn't recommend it at all.

I agree with most of this. It's my least favourite of all the musicals I've seen.

They didn’t sing the oompa looms song because that was a song from one of the film versions. The west end version was by different writers.

But the songs are in the book, so I'd expected them to be in the show Hmm

SisterAgatha · 20/02/2022 23:50

I saw it in London. Took a 5 year old. He didn’t fully understand it wasn’t real life and shouted “look out Charlie!” and was a bit panicky at times but I can’t remember what bit. But overall yes we did enjoy it.

Matilda is better

Comefromaway · 20/02/2022 23:53

There are poems in the book. The songs from both films and the stage show are original.

Matilda is better, yes.

My dds and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t even notice about the Oompa Loompa song!
We did also love Matilda.

Saw it in London.
It was fine, but a bit unmemorable.
