Stupid swimmers in the sea during the storm

I have just seen the news clip of the stupid selfish people swimming in the sea. Just no excuse for it, it's just pure stupidity and selfishness. They could end up putting other Iives at risk if they need a lifeboat and emergency help. Grrr what is wrong with some people!!!!

It makes me cross when you see huge waves and some moron standing on the sea front. The lifeboat crews should not be expected to risk their own necks for idiots like that.

Daftasabroom · 18/02/2022 14:34

@SockFluffInTheBath what huge waves?

JuergenSchwarzwald · 18/02/2022 14:40

Quite honestly the RNLI should have simply said they are not going out to help anyone today other than shipping which has to be out there.

Individual idiots can sort themselves out if they get into trouble.

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 18/02/2022 14:40

Well, tbf to them, it's not that wavy. The sea is not rough.

Stripyhoglets1 · 18/02/2022 14:41

I've swum in rougher sea than that in the summer when the red and yellow life guard flags are up - so considered safe.
Most outdoor swimmers will consider the conditions before swimming and that video looks safe to me. It must be a sheltered spot.
Now anyone swimming in Brighton with the waves there today would be an idiot.

user6573 · 18/02/2022 14:42

I posted on my kids school WhatsApp group about the storm this morning and lots of people had no idea about it, some people just don't read or watch any news whatsoever, so I suppose there is the possibility they didn't know the risk.

Daftasabroom · 18/02/2022 14:43

@JuergenSchwarzwald it's not the sea. It's not even in the UK.

itwasntaparty · 18/02/2022 14:43

They shouldn't be rescued if needed. I'm a sea swimmer. Have some sense.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/02/2022 14:44

@OnlyAFleshWound 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If you reread my post you’ll note it’s a parallel comment, it’s not about the sea swimmers in that picture.

Daftasabroom · 18/02/2022 14:49

@SockFluffInTheBath my apologies, that wasn't obvious. Some of the comments here are just ridiculous and really frustrating.

SnakeLinguine · 18/02/2022 14:51

@Daftasabroom

The article states it's in Tralee. The waves are being blown towards the shore. The wind is west or north west and there are mountains in the background. It's a very sheltered spot.
Yeah, I couldn't get excited about it, either. It's not rough and they're not putting themselves or other people at any particular risk, assuming they know the local currents, and, as I assume they're highly unlikely to have gone to Tralee for a swim from a distance on an unpleasant day, they presumably do.

I saw swimmers near here earlier, also -- again, sheltered cove with a lot of regular, year-round swimmers, wind pushing the waves onto shore, no rougher than usual most of the time.

TooManyPJs · 18/02/2022 15:13

To be fair it really doesn't look too bad. Although it's noisy the wind can't be that bad at the point that was taken as it'd be whipping up more if a swell. My DH is a surfer and goes out in much much bigger waves than that. I wonder if it was taken before the storm got going?

If they were standing next to a harbour wall with huge waves Izvestia with you, but I've been swimming in bigger swell than that lol! And I am a lightweight for that sort of thing. It looks fairly normal to me.
