OK what's the best way to get DS2 home?

When I went to bed last night we had an Amber warning here.

When I got up, all was pretty calm and DS2 went to work on his bike.

They've now upgraded to a red warning with the worst of it expected when DS is due to finish.

It's about 4 miles. He could leave his bike there and walk, or I could go and get him in the car or he could struggle through on his bike.

It's still not too bad out, but it is building.

WWYD ?

Personally I'd ask him to see if he can finish work early and I'd go and pick him up in the car before it starts getting real bad.

He's due to finish at lunchtime anyway (Friday is early finish)

Pick him up in the car. Definitely not on a bike in a red weather warning storm.

the bike I would leave. Keep an eye on the weather than go in the car if possible.

The red alert is because they may be flying debris/projectiles which are a danger to life. I’d definitely pick him up in the car

NoSquirrels · 18/02/2022 09:15

When is the worst of it over? What do his work suggest?

Ideally you would not go out in the worst part of a storm in a red warning. So it would actually be best for him to stay inside at his workplace until the worst is past, then you collect in a car.

Theunamedcat · 18/02/2022 09:16

Can his bike be put somewhere safe?

I would collect in the car personally

Dimensions3 · 18/02/2022 09:19

I would say collect in car but also is there likely to be debris on the road after the storm - you might wait to see how badly affected the area is before making a decision. If he walks home are there places to shelter temporarily along the way if gusts pick up?

Yes, his bike is in secure storage. He says he's going to walk. He's 18yo and would do anything to avoid being seen picked up by his mum.

A friend has just put out a plea for anyone who can pick her up 20 miles away. She's stranded after the trains stopped. I'm feeling very bad that I haven't responded

I’m sure I embarrassed all 3 of mine many times over the years but I never remember them refusing a lift! Grin

DS2 never wants picking up. He'd rather walk 4 miles in a storm. When I text him earlier to ask his thoughts, his response was "are you going to make me have a lift?" Grin

I don't think it's me he's embarrassed by, more the act of being picked up by your mum.
