Does anyone else feel ill at home?

I couldn't think how to word this title but I'm wondering if something I'm experiencing anyone else has experienced.

I'm always feeling sick either chest pain, bladder pain, period pains, headaches and waking at night, looking at gallbladder issues and menopause.

But the moment I go away from my own house I feel good.

Ive just stayed away for 5 nights at my parents house and left home with chest pains and was nervous about feeling awful while away and my pains almost vanished and I've just slept like a log for 4 nights.

The moment I get home (like now!) My pains are back and I'm wide awake.

It was the same last month I went away for two night to an airb&b and felt good and then back home pain and sick.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas? It's the non stop pain when I'm home it's driving me spare.

Maybe a coincidence?

Have you got a carbon monoxide detector at home?

@RoRoYoYo

Have you got a carbon monoxide detector at home?
Exactly what I was going to suggest!!

We do have one yes, that's a good point.
I've googled this and read about toxins and mold etc

But my pains are not breathing chest pains they are more like indigestion and tightness, hence the gallbladder stones being discovered. And my bladder flares up all kinds of aches and pains and just a feeling of being "sick"

But when I'm away these just go to the back of my life and I feel alive and well with a few niggles but nothing like the non stop pains.

I'm tempted to stay with a friend for a couple of nights and test the theory again in a few days and see if my current pains go again.

Everyone else in the house is all good and healthy no issues.

I'm similar and it's due to anxiety.

whythefuckdoibother · 18/02/2022 05:05

@Poppins2016 I'm starting to explore this as well, I've never had anxiety to my knowledge so how would I know?

Do you eat or drink anything different at your parents?

Or the reverse? Do your parents avoid coffee or wine? Or sugar for example?

Do you go to bed earlier there? Or drink more water?

whythefuckdoibother · 18/02/2022 05:18

@FumingFredericka if anything my food is much more carb based at my parents and slightly earlier bed, coffee and water intake is similar to home.

But it's when I go anywhere else, hotels, friends airb&b.. I've started to notice as I'm going out more, that this non stop pain is lifting when I'm out of the house.

I work in an office so during daytimes it not so obvious as I'm only away for 5-6 hours.

Do consider whether you have any source of indoor pollution at home. I went through a period where I was made sick by: chemicals in new carpets; offgassing from new building materials (our house was new build); and chipboard/MDF furniture, among many other things. I have systematically overhauled my living conditions and furnishings and am fine now. I would never live in a new build again.

Could this be rooted in something emotional, OP? Everything ok and happy at home?

Bibbitybobbityboo86 · 18/02/2022 07:34

Radon gas?

UserError012345 · 18/02/2022 07:40

I can't drink tap water OP. It makes me bloated gassy and subject to kidney / lower back pain.

You'd think surely you are able to drink tap water but nope I've eliminated and reintroduced and it's definitely that.

Do you use a water filter ? I found I could use that either. I now have to buy bottled.

UserError012345 · 18/02/2022 07:40

*couldnt

The Mind website is quite useful, if you want to read a bit more about anxiety.

I tend to find that any physical symptoms of anxiety ease with a change of scene or if I'm occupied with something to distract me.

You mention 'sleeping like a log' - what prevents you from doing that at home? Physical symptoms, something on your mind, uncomfortable mattress, general environment? Bad sleep can make you feel awful physically (and can become a vicious circle).

whythefuckdoibother · 19/02/2022 11:17

@UserError012345 that's worth exploring, thank you.

@deeplyambivalent I'm having a think about this and exploring emotions, I spoke to my DH today to tell him how I'm feeling and how I'm exploring the why behind the sickness, he's 100% supportive and we are starting with the carbon, water all the small things we can do and then he suggested talking to someone maybe about everything, it's been a hard couple of years.

And failing that he's even said we can explore moving if I felt like it may help. So emotional I have a supporting DH, it does seem very physical, the sickness.

@Poppins2016 I'm not sure at hike I wake at 3-4am and then I'm restless I was putting it down to hormones I'm the right age, but then I can sleep when I'm away through that time so maybe it's environmental.

New mattress is also on the list!
