Landlord remortgaging house

Our letting agent called today and told us landlord is sending a surveyor out next week as wants to remortgage the house. Am I overthinking to be cynical that he could be selling at the end of our current lease which is a few months away?

Obviously nobody can really say, and even if he is selling, we always knew it might happen, but really worried now as don't know if should be worried or not.

I remortgage every two years when my btl mortgage deal runs out and it needs to be revalued each time. I wouldn’t presume it is going to be sold unless you have other suspicions…this alone shouldn’t be a cause for concern.

It's entirely normal if he's reached the end of his mortgage deal and wants to get a better deal with a new provider. Of course he could be planning to sell, but it's a standard part of remortgaging if you're switching to a new mortgage sellers so that alone wouldn't concern me.

Landlords often remortgage to get better deals, dont be too concerned at this stage. Presume they havent asked for viewings so usually those would happen first before a survey.

They probably want to get a new fixed rate before things get any worse (though will have missed the best deals by now) and it’s required by the mortgage provider if the owner thinks the property is worth more than the mortgage bank’s initial rough estimate. They’ll be trying to get the best loan to value figure to get the best rate. If they’re just looking to sell I don’t think they’d send a surveyor, just an estate agent?

FairyCakeWings · 17/02/2022 16:27

It’s not worth worrying about, people always have to renew their mortgages if they have one.

We just remortgaged to fix a rate, no plans to sell.

Watto1 · 17/02/2022 16:33

I’m a landlord and have remortgaged twice . It’s just because the fixed rate deal I was on had come to an end and the new mortgage provider has to do a survey.

Thanks everyone. We have been here 9 years and it hasn't happened before so that's mainly why we wondered if it was an indication of them selling.
