Would you go into London tonight?

It's about an hour by train from here. I'd be gutted not to go, have tickets for a show, but I'm worried about getting home.

All calm here ATM and I know the SE can make a drama of weather the rest of the country sees as normal but according to BBC news we're expecting worse than the SE has seen in decades, but not until 5am tomorrow, when hopefully I'll be all tucked up in bed.

I hate to make a fuss over nothing, but otoh would feel really stupid if I end up stranded because trains aren't turning. I don't have any real alternative

Enjoy the show! I'm sure you'll be fine Smile

So if you have to do anything in London tomorrow, get it done ideally by 1000, and definitely by 1100 and try to stay indoors for most of the rest of the day!

@SquirmOfEels

I've been looking at the forecasts for London on various sites - this is a blend, but I don't know what lies behind the apps/sites so take these as indicative of when it's likely to be at its worst rather than closer prediction of what that's actually going to be

Amber warning starts at 0300, but the winds don't really start picking up until 0800, and will be getting exciting (gusts over 55, peaking around 65) somewhere between 1000/1100 until about 1400, then calming (to gusts under 50) by about 1700. Staying windy, but not as dramatic (gusts 20-35) all of Saturday, simiiar (gusts 20-45) on both Sunday and Monday,

That's useful, thank you.

So many conflicting forecasts - I was rather hoping it was exaggerated! But looks like some serious winds on the way.

We are going tomorrow evening- if our train from Gloucestershire is running. Tickets for London Eye and a show booked for Saturday so hoping it’s all calm!

Westfacing · 17/02/2022 17:57

London Eye is closing on Friday, according to Evening Standard, let's hope all fine by Saturday!

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but the Evening Standard is reporting that the London Eye will be closed tomorrow

Unless you were planning to take the sleeper back to Cornwall I think it’ll be fine. I’m in London right now and the weather has been pretty mild today.

MinorWomensWhiplash1 · 17/02/2022 22:08

Well yes, the storm's not due until early hours tomorrow. This is the calm before the storm...

Why are you asking then if know you’ll be home long before the winds start? Hmm

NeedWineNow · 17/02/2022 22:18

We've been in London all day, went out for dinner after work this evening and got back home to Kent about 20 mins ago. All calm and trains running on time. Tomorrow might be a different kettle of fish though.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 17/02/2022 22:58

Trains from Paddington currently running fine too

DetailMouse · 17/02/2022 23:17

Well I'm safely on the train home after a bloody brilliant show, but all trains on this line from 5am tomorrow already cancelled

What did you see? I went to Come From Away, which was brilliant!

That one's on my list. I read the book and it is a truly inspiring story. We saw Jersey Boys. Every single one of the cast was superb

Sounds good, maybe I'll add it to my list!
