Varifocals advice please!

I’m pretty short sighted (about 5 in each eye) with astigmatism but over the past few months I’ve found myself peering underneath my glasses to look at my phone etc and sure enough at my eye test a couple of weeks ago they said I needed varifocals.

I picked them up yesterday and the assistant did say that they could take a bit of getting used to. The near vision is great, reading etc no problems but the distance vision is rubbish! Anyone who has had varifocals before - is this something that will improve as I get used to them or do I need to go back to get them looked at? Thanks for any advice.

I loved mine but they do take a while to get used to. They are brilliant for knitting/crafts etc whilst watching TV. I only stopped wearing them when I decided to go for contact lenses.

Never go to specsavers for varietals they are totally unable to do them properly. I've had 4 pairs from them which were so blurry I literally couldn't see and they tried to tell me I would get "used" to them which is absolute crap. I took them to a private optician and they said I should stop wearing them at once.
When I buy vsrifocals from a decent optician I can see perfectly immediately.
I complained time and again and they did not give me a satisfactory reply.
Noy only but they try and palm you off and lie to you that you will get used to them. You won't.
I've heard this story time and time again.

I love mine - but I use a small optician whom I have used for years, I chose the lens with the widest field of vision and I chose the best acuity ( I think that’s the word) lens they offered.
DH used Specsavers and recently ditched them to go back to the small optician. There was little difference in price.

I swapped mine and chose computer distance specs and waiting for them now.
Hoping that having the full lens of clear vision with no blurred spots will be better, spec savers gave me a full refund after 6 weeks so I’m pleased with this.

@Houseplantmad

My husband hates his and took ages to get used to them but he persevered. He thinks they've actually totally wrecked his sight, particularly for close work, and he can't see anything without them. Before he had okay sight without them.
That's just ageing, your near sight continues to get worse and why we all have different strength reading glasses knocking around the house! I'm on +2 at the moment, hoping I will stay there for a bit.
