London - after half term

Our half term is a week later than most so I'm heading to London with a 7 year old next week. Planning a museum visit but also wanted to just do a bit of wandering around looking at street performers etc. Will there be any with it being not half term and being middle of winter still? If so which would be the best area - Covent garden? South Bank?

There will still be lots going on just go to Covent Garden outside the Actors Church in the piazza you can stand there and watch the street performers.

We are going to London too, which museum are you thinking of visiting? We are thinking either the Natural History Museum or the British Museum, we've not been to either so not sure what would be best for DD8.

For anyone who has done one, are the Thames River cruises good? MIL would like to do one but not sure if DD would enjoy it or if we'd be better off splitting up and doing something different!

Sorry to hijack your thread OP 😁

I wouldn’t do a river cruise, I’d just get the Thames clipper from embankment to Greenwich, mooch around the park stand on the meridian and look at the market. It won’t be that quiet as half the country is on half term.

Natural history definitely better for an 8yr old over the British- I've done both a couple of times. British museum we have just dipped in and out of to see the Egyptian mummies as tied in with school topic work.

We have done Thames river cruise and the clippers- both really good but clipper is cheaper if just wanting a boat ride.

The cruise however does have a commentary and the crew are very good. We did Greenwich up to the Westminster with a 3 and 8 year old as it was a good way to see lots whilst giving little legs a rest.

Natural history has something for everyone! It's very large so look up in advance what you want to see or you'll end up there the whole weekend! The extinct animals are cool as are dinosaurs. I personally love the gems exhibit and the volcanoes and earthquakes.
