Give me your ideas please.... extreme staycation

We were supposed to be having our first holiday for over a year this weekend. But now the children have covid, so we will instead be having an extreme staycation within our 4 walls and garden.

So far, the children are luckily well in themselves, but are really disappointed there won't be a holiday (still).

We have fortunately had a refund on the holiday we should have had, so have some money to spend to try and make the time a bit special at home.

Any ideas on (covid safe) options? Children are 11 and 9. So far have thought of a movie night with pizza delivered and an afternoon tea delivery.

Any suggestions gratefully received...

Hire virtual reality goggles!

Can you have a party? Make the decorations (and a piñata if you are feeling adventurous), make and decorate a cake, then have some dancing party games and party tea?

Yes, I’ve heard you can rent to a hot tub. The kids would love it !

Bonfire and bbq party

LoopyDream · 16/02/2022 22:01

Could you make a themed party based on where you were meant to go? Or is it still too raw?

Crafts, baking, new console games?

Are there any Winter Olympic sports you can play virtually?

CrimbleCrumble1 · 16/02/2022 22:09

Do you have a Wii?

Restlessinthenorth · 16/02/2022 22:20

My kids love a downstairs camp out. Sleeping bags on floor, loads of treats etc. fall asleep watching movies. Always good fun

Home spa? Get some of those foot spa things, mud masks etc

Ahh me and one of the dc have just got Covid in time for the half term here too. Sucks although we didn’t have a holiday booked but were planning lovely day trips out Sad
Whoever said afternoon tea delivery is a genius, I’m going to do that, thanks!
Ds requested a fire and a movie with popcorn tomorrow afternoon so that’s one thing down.
He got quite a few bits for Christmas we haven’t yet looked at, games and some craft kits, that sort of stuff.
I’m avoiding buying anything extra in the way of toys and games because I know we have enough.
We have a hot tub in the garden but the weather looks absolutely atrocious in the immediate coming few days!
Didn’t know you could hire virtual reality goggles either so I’ll look into that too, thanks for sharing these ideas.
Op sorry your plans have been ruined, hopefully you can make the best of the week Flowers

Wigeon · 16/02/2022 22:59

Camp in your garden if the weather where you are isn’t too horrendous!

LethargeMarg · 16/02/2022 23:00

Bananagrams got us through isolation.

Thank you for all your great suggestions... DH currently keen on buying a hot tub! I blame you all Grin

If you're buying a hot tub you need to do it ASAP as they take 24 hours to set up, get to the right temp, get the chemicals balanced etc.

There's a company round here called doorstep princesses. Your kids may be a bit old for it but they have people dressed up as superheroes and cartoon characters to come to your house.

Takeaways of your favourite food? Local cake maker to deliver brownies/cupcakes etc?

TheChosenTwo · 18/02/2022 15:38

Our hot tub took 5 months to be delivered Grin
And the dc weren’t really interested beyond the first week or two - which is really an absolute blessing because it means I get it to myself!!
