So recently with all the strong winds, I've found myself getting very anxious about risk of damage to the house, which leads to me struggling to sleep or concentrate on anything else. Currently have a splitting headache due to the stress of listening to the winds outside.

Couple of reasons for the anxiety, our roof is currently on its last legs (been told it has about a year left in it) so with every gust, im imagining it blowing off. Lost a couple of tiles already tonight.

Second reason which im adding for full disclosure, about 20 years ago, I lost several family members in a bad weather event. So not the direct reason for this more recent anxiety, but doesnt help when i catastrophise what could happen.

Unfortunately even though I rationally know why im anxious, and can tell myself theres nothing I can do to change whatever is going to happen, it doesnt help with the worry that wont go away...

Any tips on how to get some sleep tonight, while the wind gusts outside??

Oh I’m so sorry. I don’t think it’s surprising that wind makes you anxious. Losing several family members in a weather insistent must make extreme weather feel very unsafe.

I would say that you need to try and calm down the survival part of your brain which is on high alert at the moment. It is trying to keep you safe as it is sensing danger at the moment.

So, how would you calm maybe a child who was scared? I would think you would listen to the fear, acknowledge it was understandable and then try and counter the fear with some rational thoughts.

So, you are not in a life threatening situation. You are safe at home and whilst you may lose some roof tiles you will be ok.

Again, I am so sorry you lost family in what just have been awful circumstances.

Wear earplugs and sleep downstairs? If there is no downstairs, sleep under a heavy table? If you have a cellar, make a bed up in there.

Have you tried listening to youtube 'relaxation for anxiety' or similar, perhaps using headphones/earphones?
