Have any of you never been abroad?

Just wondering if anyone has never been abroad and if it was though choice or sue to financial restraints.

I have a friend who has never been out of England at the age of 40. Not sue to do financial circumstances but she has never seen the attraction. She always goes on lovely luxury holidays and does stuff all year round.
I find that hard to understand but each to their own.
My mum had never been abroad either and had no desire but was in her seventies and it was more of a generation thing for her! My mum died 2 years ago but she had not been on holiday since 1978 and had no desire.
I personally look forward to holidays abroad and although I have a settled happy life I feel like I need one abroad. My sane part of my brain tells me I don't need one I just want one. It has to be abroad too! We had planned a big trip abroad this year but sadly I am not going ahead with it as concerned about the rising prices.
Just got me wondering about the people who had never been out of the country. I can understand it in places like North America due to the vastness though!

My DCs used to have school friends who had never been abroad. Think it was a combination of low income and limited horizons. There is something about this area - people tend not leave. If they go to uni, it will be one they can commute to from Home. In both primary and secondary school, many of my DCs friends' parents were pupils at the same school and many of them even met at the school.

Probably should have said "community focussed" rather than "limited horizons" other wise I sound judgemental which is unintentional.

I used to think it was really odd if people didn’t leave their country if they have the means (travel broadens the mind etc.) but I think of it more like a hobby or interest now. Some people like travelling some don’t and I don’t judge.

I have only been abroad once as an adult and a few times with school. (Back when you didn't need a passport to go to France).

My children are in their teens and only one has been. Mainly it's due to lack of money. I can't even afford a uk holiday and secondly its confidence as I'm scared to go somewhere I don't speak the language.

I’ve been abroad many times but not for many years now. I try to limit my impact on the environment so made a decision that I wouldn’t go abroad. We have holiday homes in England and Scotland and visit other places so still get away. One of my kids has never been abroad.

No I haven't. I am quite afraid about getting on a plane. My family have been trying to get me to try it by going on a very short flight first. I'm probably about ready to get a passport now.

Never abroad as a child - I’m a child of the 80s skilled working class background. I didn’t know anyone who did - we were considered rich to holiday in the uk by contemporaries. As a teen I went to France with the school. I counted myself extremely lucky that my family had a whip round to send me to Iceland for an a level trip - first in family to do a levels so big deal. It was over a £1000 in late 90s I believe - school were good and we paid we weekly. I use to take brown envelopes to the bursar. I managed Spain in my 20s. Then I met h and his family are spread across Europe so travelled over. Currently in Denmark. I’m glad my kids can see more but I would say it’s the availability of cheap flights that helps.

I've been abroad once for two nights. I only got a passport in the first place for ID and then had the chance for the first (and probably last) time.

My mother has never left the country. Apart from one trip 30 miles for a wedding where she bitched incessantly the entire time there and back again, she's not left her part of town, about a three mile radius if you include the nearest hospital, for about 55 years.

The difference is that I want to travel but can't afford it.
