The last I read, the truckers are having their bank accounts frozen for protesting!

Canada has turned into a dictatorship, OP. That's what is going on.
No doubt someone will come and disagree, which is fine. These are legal peaceful protests.

They deny this. They reckon it was maybe one trucker with a nazi flag who they have denounced and that media reports of them being right wingers is Treadeu fake news.

Trudeau is a despot. He is not going to come out of this well and a speech he made a few days ago in their Parliament was very incendiary and insulting to the Jewish members and their ancestors and he was called to apologise twice, which he wouldn't do.
He tried to involve the military to break up the protest and was told in no uncertain terms to naff off.
Apparently the tow truck companies refusing to tow away the trucks are being threatened with having their assets frozen too. Many of them are having 'problems' with their equipment and are unable to help.
Any footage I've seen has been peaceful, although trouble makers have tried to infiltrate the protest, they have been quickly been stopped.

The world is watching and from what I can see, most are supporting the truckers.

Trudeau is acting like a tin pot dictator - he has never had any credibility in my eyes and only got there because of who his daddy was. I’m completely disgusted with the way Canada has gone and will probably never go back unless something massive changes. And that saddens me.

This is so shocking. Apparently Trudeau's actions are so extreme that they have prompted Chinese and Iranian politicians to criticise him .

It's worrying that it now sets a precedent - anyone with views that are considered wrong by the establishment can have their bank accounts frozen and assets removed without due legal process. Scary times.

This is one reason I'm against the phasing out of cash - digital currency controlled by governments means no freedom. But of course I was a mad woman for having these concerns, until last week.

Also, if you get arrested and charged and can't make formal arrangements for pets, after 8 days they will be put down

Protestors and truckers, many of whom are not white, are still being described by Trudeau as white supremacists.

I was expecting this in England. To some extent, I think all we've done is
delay it.

@EmmaH2022 I don’t know. Part of the issue is Ontario and Quebec decide the federal election and tend to vote liberal. Will his party get rid of him? I don’t know. It’s just all so sad.

I must admit, I was thinking more "will enough people stand up to him?"

I have so much respect and admiration for all the truckers and protestors out in the freezing snow right now.

well i'm in british columbia, getting live footage that the demonstrators are being moved.
the demonstration was well organized took over several city blocks and was disruptive to the lives or ordinary citizens. not enough port a potties noise etc.
because they were not a legit demonstration and that so many people were coming together with their own "cause" was a problem (JT claims he couldn't meet with them period and the demands were varied from vaccine issues to wanting JT to step down.
everyone is fed up and each province is reducing mandates but most people that i know of are somewhat supportive of an end of some sort.
the truckers union has not condoned the action and insists most truckers are not supporting this.

What's going on is that free speech and the right to protest are only for approved causes.

it's a mess and one made worse by JT's refusal to discuss anything. i'm not alone i'm sure in wondering what the purpose of the remaining mandates are??
free speech etc is said to be fine but part of the problem is the physical space this group has take up. some suggest that IF the demonstration was anywhere else JT wouldn't have taken action.
and i don't understand the ridiculous need for this "special powers".
now the bridge blockade between canada and usa lost the movement some support.

@EmmaH2022 I think what concerns me the most is that he has a name that is one of two things:

1. A dog whistle
2. A rallying point

So, grass roots movements in the liberal party are unlikely as they are firmly in camp 2 from what I’ve seen and heard from family. The issue is - from outside his own party - Trudeau has shown he will do everything in his power to shutdown any protest or speech he isn’t in favour of. Including attacking your likelihood and assets. When enough people get scared and stand down it becomes a fringe movement which is then easy to call “terrorism”.

I am so grateful that the truckers are standing up to Trudeau and they have my absolute support and admiration. They have approached everything in the right way - civil disobedience rather than violence - and the longer this goes on and Trudeau refuses to listen to them then the more he looks like an unhinged dictator. The way he and his government have treated their own people has been hideous and disturbing to watch. They have stamped all over civil liberties for too long and it's time they were held to account.

everyone has their own reason to support the movement.
i too agree with the civil disobedience and i have mixed feelings about the reports of outside interference (large sums of money from the usa) i feel some of the mandates are no longer helpful.
i hope a small core group are allowed to continue demonstrating in a designated area.
i'm very disappointed about freezing all assets. maybe returning the out of country ones??? many canadian's donated (i believe 40% of the donations were canadian)

It is a mess. The initial reason for the protest was really about people being frustrated with restrictions and mandates but the far right co-opted the protests and took the focus away from the real purpose. The nazi and confederate flags delegitimize any protest. Additionally the truckers who blocked off the downtown in Ottawa were honking their truck horns 24/7 causing significant distress and harm to families who live in that area. I also know people who while just trying to walk to work and they were spit on and called racist names by the protestors. It had become an unsafe place due to those who were the loudest and most obnoxious making it about themselves more than anything.

Trudeau is an idiot and the Emergency Act is complete overkill. The protests were not well handled to keep them safe and peaceful and non harmful BUT that is just Trudeau flexing his power and being who he is. Very disappointed in everyone really.
