Weekend in Belfast - what to do?

We are going to Belfast for a long weekend in a few weeks. I havent been there for 20 years so I'm prepared for big changes!

It's just me and DP going. We are staying in the city centre, no car. May take a bus tour to the Giant's causeway one day. We love eating and drinking, markets, walking, museums and galleries, bit of shopping. Please share all your recommendations for what to see, where to go, where to eat. Thanks!

I really enjoyed doing the open top bus tour last time I was there. Took me places I wouldn't have thought of going to and the commentary was very amusing. Enjoyed the Titanic museum more than I thought I would! Had dc so couldn't got to pubs but I would definitely have had some on my list.

Titanic museum.
Belfast Giants (if they’re at home).
Open top bus tour.
There’s a great (mainly food) market on a Sunday, but I forget where, sorry.
Crumlin gaol (if open).
Belfast is a very walkable city.

I enjoyed the Titanic museum too, and also did one of the Game of Thrones location tours if you are a fan.

Belfast local here although have tiny DC so sadly I’m not the most up to date as don’t get out too often these days!

St George’s Market is a must if you’re into your food - it’s on Fri/Sat/Sun from about 9/10am - 3pm and usually has live music (certainly on Saturday/Sunday) and lots of local food stalls to sample.

I would highly recommend Taste and Tour’s Belfast food tour for a great way to spend a few hours but it books up quite far in advance so might not be available.

I second PP that the Titanic museum is a lot more enjoyable than you might think and well worth a visit. If you can head up to the giant’s causeway one day then that’s a great plan as it’s obviously pretty spectacular (Portrush has some lovely restaurants to choose from as well as gorgeous scenery but maybe trickier to get to without a car - maybe on your next trip!)

Restaurant wise we’ve enjoyed Holohan’s, James St, Mourne Seafood Bar, Home, any of the Deanes restaurants and Yugo. The Muddler’s Club, Six by Nico, The Dumpling Library and OX are all meant to be really good. Drinks at the Merchant are lovely in the grand surroundings of the great room and I see that Haymarket on Royal Avenue are doing bottomless brunches on Sundays with cocktails and streetfood which might be a nice wee chilled activity! The Cathedral Quarter in particular will have plenty of nice bars/restaurants to choose from.

Hope you have a fab visit! 😊

The Crown Liquor Saloon, Victorian gem, grade A listed, owned by the National Trust....oysters a speciality.

Do a black cab tour! The driver takes you on a drive around Belfast & explains a lot about what happened during the troubles and why. It was really interesting & we both learnt a lot.
