Can someone recommend me a sofa?

Posting for traffic, but we’re really desperate. Our 5 year old sofa is truly giving up the ghost. Family are here visiting and complaining about how uncomfortable it is, so much so that we’ve been offered money towards a new one.
But everything I read is about which sofa to NOT buy. Dfs, sofology, scs are all awful apparently and to avoid like the plague.
We’re a family with two small children and a dog who goes on the furniture so I want something that can be maintained easily enough, but fabric is much preferred for comfort.
I’m eyeing up the ikea ones so planning a trip there. But we don’t want to buy something and it turns out to be crap a year down the line, so any recommendations?

IKEA Ektrop

User48751490 · 14/02/2022 20:18

Ours was delivered in November and it's so comfy my parents went out and bought one. Have since heard my aunt, and one of my cousins has the Ektorp too.

Affordable. Comfy. Washable covers. What's not to like.

We've got an ikea enterprise as well, very comfy, washable covers, very cheap, and we were able to get ours delivered in about 3 days! We previously had a dfs one, which lasted 2 years before we had to get rid of it as it started giving us sciatic pain

Ektorp!

Ours was delivered three weeks after ordering. Very fast compared to other companies.

Well, we've had a DFS sofa for 7 years and it's still going stong. It's in the dining/ play room so has had 3 children diving around on it daily. Still got great shape to the cushions, never had an issue with springs. I clean it monthly with the upholstery attachment of our carpet cleaner.

vintagenurse our last sofa was DFS, lasted 11 years but it looked really grotty in its final five years. We just tolerated it because we have small DC. Would never buy from DFS again. Overpriced.

I’ve had a DFS wentworth sofa for over twelve years now. It’s been recovered but is still going strong and is incredibly comfortable. Seats four adults and supportive enough to sit on or lie on if feeling lazy / off colour

I've got an IKEA Stockholm which is a expensive (for IKEA) sofa and it's so comfortable. I love it and we've had it for years. Plenty of room for dogs.

We've also, had an Erktop in the past which is a brilliant sofa.

We've recently got a sofa from scs. Our last one lasted 7u years and was still sturdy. But we changed decor so changed sofa and passed on the old one.
The new one almost identical. Foam upgrades. Is no where near as well made but is comfy. And I did have an issue with it and they sent the after care team out. I did have to wait 3 weeks but they were brilliant

Sofa sofa are very good. My everyday sofas and my sofa bed are from there. DM recommended them - she has had her three piece suite from them for years and it is still going strong despite 4 grandchildren bouncing all over them!

DinoDandy · 14/02/2022 20:40

We’ll probably get an IKEA KVIK next time- very comfy- our friends have had one for years. There are companies which sell fabric covers that fit if you didn’t like the IKEA options.

Shinysilverlamp · 14/02/2022 23:08

Thank you all for some wonderful suggestions. I’m going to take a trip to ikea and test out all the ones suggested here and see how they feel. I’d been focusing on the VIMLE, but the EKTORP looks like it could be a great option too!

Thank you all!

We’ve got the IKEA Gronlid and like it a lot! Had it 11 months now and has held up well, plus great for naps.

OwlNoisesInHerFace · 14/02/2022 23:17

We got our sofa from nabru.co.uk five or six years ago and it's still in brilliant condition. Covers are all removable and can be washed, and you can design your own sofa to fit pretty much whatever size space you have. I often sleep on ours as I suffer with insomnia so am up at all hours.

They do require self-assembly, unless you live within a certain radius of their warehouse and can pay for their building service, but it's a wooden frame with the seat cushions etc put on, it's no more complicated than any flat pack, and it all slots together so you don't need any tools.
