.... your one-year-old got for their birthday? My beloved grand-niece is about to have her first birthday, and I want to buy her something she'll love (for around 20 quid). They don't have masses of space, so I'm avoiding pushalongs etc, but bath toys could work... All suggestions welcome!

Box of duplo ready for when they were about 17/18 months.

Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit · 14/02/2022 16:56

Absolutely duplo, or mega blox.

Redwinestillfine · 14/02/2022 17:05

Those Tomy hide and squeak eggs. Hands down.

multivac · 14/02/2022 17:09

Dammit, someone else has got in with the squeaky eggs!

A few of those nice wooden, painted animals. They last for ages and can be added to for a couple of years.

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 14/02/2022 17:23

Something like this. Played with for YEARS.

Duplo has huge staying power. Probably the most played with toy we have.

Tea set (plastic so it can be used with water or dry).

Books with music or flaps.

emmathedilemma · 14/02/2022 17:31

A Scuttlebug

Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit · 14/02/2022 19:30

Oh god not those bloody eggs. They go everywhere

Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit · 14/02/2022 19:30

Oooh yes a scuttlebug!!!

Icantremembermyusername · 14/02/2022 19:33

Fisher price singing teapot with is also a shape sorter. Endless hours of fun for dc.
Avoid those squirty bath toys. They get manky inside v quickly.

roarfeckingroarr · 14/02/2022 20:52

This. My one year old LOVES it.

A play tent and tunnel. My DS still loves his now

HairyScaryMonster · 14/02/2022 21:32

A water/sand table. She was just standing and still using it at 6. Maybe not in your £20 budget though..

BlackeyedSusan · 14/02/2022 21:36

Age 1: a folding plastic slide. You put them on it and hold for the first part of the year but DD loved it.

Scout2016 · 14/02/2022 21:41

Scuttlebugs are great.
My dd's favourite was galt pop up peg people. Don't look like much but wow, kids love them.
Also a leap frog discovery house but you'd have to get second hand I think, for some reason they've stopped making them.

Scout2016 · 14/02/2022 21:44

Yes to wooden food too, ideally that has some take apart velcro back together/ sorting element.

PottersParties · 14/02/2022 21:46

These! I think we had some from Djeko (sp?) but ours played with them endlessly between 1-3 y/o www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/cardboard-stacking-blocks-e2482.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu-Lj_JSA9gIVEoFQBh33gwBhEAQYASABEgIsgvD_BwE

A second the scuttlebug

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 14/02/2022 21:50

A trolley or cart to practise walking.

A bubble machine.

Some sort of sit on vehicle for the garden.

multivac · 14/02/2022 21:50

Great ideas all, thanks. I've gone for Duplo; fingers crossed it goes down well!

Another vote for the wooden biscuits. My 2 and 4 year olds love bringing people wooden food, and have done for years. The tea set thing, or the picnic basket version, was also really popular.
