Struggling with Moviprep

babachic · 13/02/2022 22:50

Have my 'emergency' colonoscopy tomorrow after months of waiting and I'm really struggling to get the moviprep down. I've managed 3/4 of the first litre (second litre is for the morning) but I can't stop gagging when I drink it. I've added cordial, lemonade and drinking through a straw whilst holding my nose and still not managing. Any tips? Its been nearly 4 hours since I started and I keep having to stop because of the nausea

@Squiffy01 thank you, that's good to know and glad you found yours ok. Hopefully your next goes just as smoothly! Onto the last glass of moviprep now, will be glad when this is over with!

Moviprep is the devil. If you've really struggled, ask for Picolax next time. It's so much less volume to get down. I always vomit the Moviprep so well done to you for finishing it!

babachic · 14/02/2022 08:51

@BobbinThreadbare123 if I have to do it again I definitely will be asking for something else, that was the worst thing ever. Was very close to being sick a few times Envy disgusting stuff!

Well done for getting it down. It's evil stuff, it really is. I felt like my insides had turned to ice I was so cold afterwards.
Definitely have sedation for your procedure. Good luck Smile

Chillyjam · 14/02/2022 09:10

Well done for getting the moviprep down.

If you have sedation make sure you don’t need to drive for 24-48 hours. It was will most likely mean you need tomorrow and possibly the next day off work. Insurance companies won’t insure you driving after sedation for either 24-48 hours.
If you can also have the gas and air with sedation. The test shouldn’t hurt but it can be uncomfortable, like trapped wind. They inflate the bowel with water and air, so this can cause a trapped wind pain, if you need to fart during the test do. You will be much more comfortable and they would have heard it all before.

@babachic

Ok morning dose is worse, one glass down - three to go 🤢

For those who had the procedure with sedation, did you still feel anything? Very worried about the pain as my stomach is already very sore from the prep!

Honestly the prep is the worst part!

It's weird rather than painful. Definitely have the sedation.

dipdye · 15/02/2022 02:23

Hope it went okay, op

babachic · 15/02/2022 09:19

Thanks @dipdye all went okay, sedative made it a much better experience than I expected thankfully. The moviprep was 100% the worst bit of it all

Nothing was found which is obviously good, but just feeling disappointed as I've had many ongoing symptoms for nearly a year now and they're making me really unwell but was told as nothing found it'll be likely IBS. I just feel there's something more due to the symptoms I have but was basically implied they've done their bit and that's it. Just no answers re the bleeding I've been experiencing and other issues Confused

Argh it’s so gross. I had to drink it quite fast but I did gag a bit. I think sipping just prolongs the pain.

It wasn’t too uncomfortable with sedation. Hope it goes well x

Spudyoulikeit · 15/02/2022 09:23

An already had it! Glad it was ok though understand the frustration about lack of answers x

babachic · 15/02/2022 20:06

Can sedation cause fever? Been feeling crappy today after colonoscopy yesterday, super tired and sore stomach (feels almost like I'm bruised inside) and just checked my temp as feeling a bit weird and it's 39. Could this be from the sedation? The doctors didn't say anything about a temp but not sure

I'm glad to hear nothing bad was found but I know what you mean about feeling deflated when you don't get the answers you were hoping might explain years of pain and issues.

Has endometriosis been ruled out? - that can cause bowel adhesions and the symptoms are like IBS. That was why I had to do a bowel prep - I was having a hysterectomy and my bowel had to be surgically detached from my womb in order to remove the latter. I'd been told I had IBS for years.

babachic · 15/02/2022 20:40

@ClariceQuiff i don't think it's been ruled out, never been mentioned by anyone actually! My GP has just sent a message (at this time!) asking me to call between 8-5pm to make an appt to discuss next steps so I will mention it when I call tomorrow
