Has anyone been to the Sky Garden

It's something I've been meaning to do since well before lockdown.

Is it worth the trip? Is there a "garden" worth seeing in February? Would I stand out like sore thumb among all the couples if I go on my own.

I'm meeting a friend in London to see a show on Thursday eve. They'll be working during the day, I'm on holiday. I was thinking I could go up a bit early and have a visit. Maybe treat myself to a cocktail, if that's the sort of thing that happens there?

Doh. Googled free tickets and up it popped. Sadly all sold out on his birthday. Best think again.

Maybe make it part of a ‘gardens in the sky’ tour? Kensington roof gardens are fab and they have FLAMINGOS!

I'm now trying to think of more up gardens you can go to.

Kensington Roof Gardens closed a while back, sadly.

The Garden at 120 (Fenchurch Street) is another one to try

Oh no! What happened to the Mingos?! I used to go there to eat lunch when I worked in Kensington 😢

You have to book in advance, you can't just turn up.

Cocktails and snacks are good and not too £££. And the views are amazing!!!

It's usually pretty busy and nobody will notice if you're on your own.

The gardens are all inside and stay pretty much the same over the year...

It's definitely worth a visit.

I loved it. Wouldn't call it a garden as such, but the views were amazing. I thought we'd go up, look at the view and move on, but after a couple of days of tiring sightseeing we bought funky cocktails, sat down, watched the views over London and just chilled for a while.

It was nice. And it's free so why not. You would definitely NOT stick out on your own there, I promise.

St Dunston in the east ruin is nearby and worth a visit.

I’m thinking of taking my son to the Sky Garden for his 18th on a Saturday evening in September. However it’s completely confusing as to how I book. I don’t want an “experience” probably a glass of fizz and then eat elsewhere.

Any thoughts or would people recommend somewhere else?

thanks!

Seriously? Unless he's specifically asking to go there, I think he'll be disappointed. That's how you want him to spend a Sat night for his 18th??! It sounds a very middle aged way to celebrate (sorry OP). Sounds like this is more for you than for him??

I've been. It was either go there or The Shard so I googled and more seemed to be favouring Sky Garden (plus it was free). It was nice, I'm glad I went.
We didn't have anything to eat or drink there because it was really busy, plus my husband isn't the most patient man where queues are concerned

They go for the View
Its free but you have to book and have id

The view is good. It smells funny on the inside and bar is rammed even to get a coffee in the day.

Yes he’s up for it. He’s doing other things with his friends and this is a family night out. We will have a nice curry/pizza after the drink. We live in London and it’s always nice to do something different.

if I was suggesting the Tate or the national portrait gallery, you’d have a point.

Me and DH love it there. Been 3 times and hope to go again next month.

The views are great and we don't think the garden is as bad as some posters are saying. We like looking at the plants and seeing what they are.

Each time we have been we have spent between and hour and a half and two hours there. Wandering round, having a coffee, taking photos, looking at the plants. We definitely needed more than the 20 minutes one poster suggested
