Hip flexor strain

I am booked into drs next week but wondered if anyone has had experience of this. I run pretty regurlarly not very long distance but almost every day and second day. I havent been doing any warming up or stretching recently which is awful i know. After a run last week i had a niggle in my hip and two days later it has become v v painful . It is v v up and down but matches the description of a hip flexor strain

Have you tried a sports massage ? I had painful hip flexors when I started running but a good sports massage ‘released’ them and no problems since.

One day it seemed to recover but now its back to being v painful and difficult to walk. I can't rest it all the time (as is advised) as v busy the young kids and my job sometimes needs me on my feet a lot too.
Anyone had an experience of this and recovery time?

Thanks @Freddofan , will look into this and also a physio and see what gp says. If i rest it a lot it feels better but any walking around or going up stairs etc it starts to flair up again

DS struggled with tight hip flexors when he was growing (athlete training 5/6 days a week). Sports physio really helped.

Thanks, will book into a physio but I am v v time starved at the mo and funds are tight as I am paying back some extra expenses at the moment. It's a lot more than tight as ive had tight hips before with running, it's just on one side and it's actually hard to walk at this stage. It recovered for a day but is now v bad again after i walked around on it yesterday..

I had this from a riding injury and found even after physio the only thing that brought longterm relief was daily pilates focused on that area

@HelpMeHiveMind thats a really good idea. Was the pain v bad for you? I am worried about causing more damage now.... After I rest it a while it seems ok but once I am back on my feet it gets gradually worse again to the point where I can barely walk on it. Im getting it checked out anyway but was wondering how long it might take to heal....

@Owieeee yes very bad, although it did get better over time but it just never went away. The pilates has helped to actually strengthen the area gradually and gently instead of just temporarily making it feel nicer which the physio exercises and treatments seemed to. I not only have pain far less frequently now but am just generally much stronger - would definitely recommend finding yourself a pilates class / specialist who specialises in your hobby
