Supersize an everyday object - homework

bbw24 · 12/02/2022 16:46

( I have posted in homework corner but time is ticking)

My sons homework is to supersize a everyday item. Any ideas?
We want something fun and outside the box. We could possibly add some electronics eg lights, number display. It's my weekend off so we basically have tomorrow and possibly Monday!

Cripes. I’d just bend a wire coat hanger into a giant paper clip.
I suppose you could add googley eyes to it.....but lights?

onemouseplace · 12/02/2022 16:52

I'd bake a massive take on a biscuit - a bourbon or a custard cream or something.

BertieBotts · 12/02/2022 16:53

Yes make a massive sweet! Like this :) www.pimpthatsnack.com/

Gladioli23 · 12/02/2022 16:53

I guess if you wanted to do electronics could you super size an (old fashioned i.e brickish) mobile phone? Or a digital clock?

A massive oversized desk lamp like the IKEA floor lamps? www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hektar-floor-lamp-dark-grey-60216549/

An oversized alarm clock might be fun as well.

Or could you super size a rollskate and build a shoe shaped go kart?

Greydogs123 · 12/02/2022 16:53

Paper towel cardboard inner into a giant pencil.

Hi, I'm a teacher and curious about the learning intentions for this task. What's the context - Is it science, art, maths?

Hellocatshome · 12/02/2022 17:00

I think I would just get one of those giant gummy bear moulds from Amazon and make a giant jelly gummy bear.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 12/02/2022 17:01

What about super sizing Lego, then you could really make anything. In front of me is my Lego Statue of Liberty, something like that could be cool.

TeenPlusCat · 12/02/2022 17:38

Take in a tablespoon and say it is a teaspoon?

This is Art.
ClariceQuiff · 12/02/2022 19:08

Take in a bed sheet as a supersized handkerchief.

Comedycook · 12/02/2022 19:11

Could you supersize an ice cube tray by sticking a load of plastic food boxes together?

Kanaloa · 12/02/2022 19:11

How old is he? Can he come up with a few ideas of small things he thinks would be fun to supersize?

I would be wary of adding lights etc and making it too OTT because surely that will be you basically doing it? I always tell mine I did all my homework when I was at school! I’m here to help but not to come up with all the ideas then do all the work. Otherwise I’d be the star of the week and not them.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/02/2022 19:18

This is Art.

I taught secondary school art for 26 years. It got some of the best results in the country.

The only thing they are learning here it appears is something about scale ( but not described or referred to) or how their parents would do it.

Might be fun to do but crap learning.

Or a garden fork and say it's a table fork!

I agree with this. I’m anti homework generally but this is exceptionally shit. Luckily your son has engaged parents to do the task with him, loads won’t.
FunkyPhantom · 12/02/2022 19:27

Super size a doorbell that you have to throw things at to ring

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2022 19:27

Ds and I did this and made giant twin bars!

We use toilet rolls cut in half. Lined with grease proof appear. Shirt read, caramel and chocolate.

Wrapped in grease proof paper and we printed off the twix cover.

We had great fun Grin

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2022 19:28

TWIX not twin!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/02/2022 19:28

Yes it’s exceptionally shit. They are learning nothing at all.

Do t know how old they are, but we did NOTHING like this with our feeder schools.

None of them will have the skills to do it properly. So it’s way above all of them.

I HATE shit art teaching in primary schools.

My conversations with Y7’s:

What did you do in art in junior school?
We drew Romans.
We made models ^ as above
We did colouring.

Me: so what did you learn?
Then: silence

🤷🏼‍♀️

ChatterMonkey · 12/02/2022 19:31

My first thought was tv remote control?

Especially when the parents have spent a weekend on it
Pumperthepumper · 12/02/2022 19:32

I learned that my parents can create a scale model of a household object.

RosieRoww · 12/02/2022 19:35

Big cereal box turn into a match box?
You can make matches from kitchen towel rolls ?
