Finally got to hold my spider! (Spider pics included)

This is my little jumping spider. It’s an L6 which means it has moulted 6 times and is nearing adult hood. It has beautiful green chelicerae (fangs) but we still don’t know if it’s a boy or girl yet.
I’ve had it since November and this is the first time I’ve been able to handle it. Look how cute!

Yes! That’s what originally got me looking at spiders. Then I saw Lucas which got me to Ophelia and that was it. I was hooked

is she a bred spider or captured from the bathroom? (only room in my house with jumping spiders- the cellar spiders have taken over the rest of the house)

Captive bred. There are a lot of spider breeders bud you know where to look. This one came from Magick Morphs and was an L4 when I first got her. However, the person who’s running Magick morphs has decided to stop selling L4 and only sell L6 because they are very delicate.

Yes. It’s Artemis. Which will probably be shortened to Artie if it’s a boy

What country/habitat is he native to?

And are you actually saying that he knows you? Like, he’s ok with you picking him up (and nobody else) and you had to work towards that? My mind is honestly blown by this!

How long will Artemis live?
Does it need feeding daily?

They are originally from Florida hence the needing of higher temperature

They are incredibly clever for a spider. In fact, one was sent up in space once and survived because she figured out that “swimming” to her prey was more effective than jumping. She survived coming back to earth too.

The age is different. Females will live longer than males. Around 3 years if you’re if you’re lucky. Males around 18 months. You don’t feed them daily no. 2-3 times a week.

Aren't they incredibly easy to lose??

They can be. On one of my spider groups, there’s a girl who has one who is a very good escape artist. She’s found him on her wall many a times where the little sod escaped.

However the last time he escaped, she found him in Lidl . He had gotten in her bag, and she found him as she opened the bag to put her shopping in. I think she’s looking for a different enclosure now and renaming him Houdini

They are indeed adorable. People should always see spider paws before seeing the spider. Might help them relax a bit

Still nope, too many bloody cats in my house.
They go mad chasing milk bottle tops, and their own tails, I don't think adding a spider that's not meant to be chased is a good idea!

No spider fan here (I'll catch and release) but your little chap is very cute!

I’m a secret spider fan and like to live and let them live in the house, but the webs drive DH nuts and he makes me catch them and put them outside. But I had no idea they could be so cute! Artemis/Artie is adorable. And those feet!
